I just got the carb back from Pony Carbs....will get it on soon as I can. I wanted to take a picture before I put it on. It looks fantastic....really impressed with the quality of work.

Looks great. Absolutely the right answer for you car. Have you been able to start photographing the original parts of the car? It could be helpful to you in the future and many people restoring other 72s.

Thank you for reminding me I will do that. How/where would I post those pics?

Maybe a "Survivor Gallery" could be created. It would be a great reference source for those doing a restoration. Chuck

Good to hear your experience with Pony carbs, I've been looking around the web to find someone to build my Motorcraft 2V off the 302 and sent a couple of emails enquiring about turnaround and price. Reading their site, they look very professional and looked to have improved the efficiency of flaws in the old carbs.

I was reading in Mustang Times that the owner of Pony Carbs just recently passed away, but I understand he left the business in capable hands.

I purchased a carb from them for my parents 66 coupe that has an inline 6 and it was a direct fit and perfect right out of the box. Also my brother got one for his 67 from them both carbs been on about 3 years now with no troubles. [/i]

I've spoken with Jon at Pony carbs several times but it's been years ago when they were still in NY. I didn't realize he passed. The carb I bought from them for my 65 was a 4100 and it ran & looked great. It seemed like it produced less power than a Holley tho. I haven't run that carb in years but it started with ease & gave me zero problems. They know how to pretty it up better than new too!

Sent my carb off to Pony carbs yesterday. This is my first step in the restoration and I'm really looking forward to getting it back all done.

My experience with Pony Carbs was an absolute disaster. A few years back I sent them the carb from my '66 'Stang to be rebuilt. I paid them a bunch of $$$, had to send it back twice to get it worked on (again and again) and finally ended up paying somebody local to do the job right. Yeah, it looked pretty, but didn't run worth a diddly.

FWIW, the local Mustang shops around here don't do business with Pony for exactly the same reason.

But if yours runs fine, that's great and I'm glad it does the job for you.

i overhaul my carbs myself. sending the carb off to the US from europe and then paying taxes when you get it back cost a fortune. i've figured out how to make the 4300 perform better. most of the 4300 have jets that are too small (62). i changed them from 62 to 64 or 65 and then you don't have any hesitation while cruising with the car...not to mention any blogs.

at the end of the day the carb has to work properly.

p.s. i had to talk to the manager of PC once because one of his employees was giving me a hard time. i wanted to order a few parts and the guys tell me to stop messing around by overhauling the carb myself. "you won't be able to get the job done because you're not a carb specialist...we're the only company that can do this."

i found that very unprofessional!
