Has anyone swapped one of these into a 71-73 convertible? I'm looking at going that route but the extra bracing makes things a bit tight. I did a search but couldn't find any examples done on a convertible.

I am doing the same thing. The crossmember is harder to find that the Holy Grail. What are you using for a shifter?

I used a BM shifter, but bassicly you can fabricate it to fit any shifter of choise. If you can or somebody could fabricate a crossmember, way cheaer then buying and trying to find one.

We did an AOD transplant into our 73 Mach 1. The engine is a street/strip built 351W (not C). Below are links to the YouTube videos I shot of the entire process. In the YouTube descriptions I provide parts and vendor lists. Best thing we could have done is installing the AOD.



This is a link showing the impact on engine RPM at 60 MPH with the AOD in 3rd/Drive gear, and then in 4th/OverDrive gear. In the AOD, 3rd gear is a 1:1 ratio, just like 3rd gear in a C4. FMX, or C6 automatic transmission.
