'72 Convertible help needed

I'm looking for some recommendations regarding the best place/way to sell a 1972, Mustang convertible, 351-2V. It was my dad's car, and he always baby'd it. The car has always been garaged, and never driven in the rain. My dad recently passed, and I'm trying to find out if it's better to try and sell it the old fashioned way of setting a price and placing an ad, put it on an auction website, or give it to one of those auction places you see on TV. Do the auction sites increase the sale price enough to justify the auction commission?

Everything on the car is original and in great condition (at least I think so), and nothing has been restored. The car has 30,300 miles. My dad did get a Marti Report on the vehicle, which said it was one of a kind, but as I'm starting to see, there seems to be a lot of "one of a kind" cars out there. While I'd love to have the car, my mom was just diagnosed with Alzheimer's, so selling it will help pay for assisted living or other facilities as the disease progresses.

Facebook marketplace is one of the better places to buy and sell cars anymore. They took over what craigslist used to be.

You may try bring-a-trailer if you dont want to deal with the tire kickers and lowballers on facebook.

We have a for sale forum here, too. It doesnt have nearly as many viewers as the other places. But you are assured that anybody looking in there is specifically looking for a 71-73 mustang. The quality of the buyers is probably a lot higher.

Thank you. He was so proud of his car. He loved going to the local car shows, and he had an easel that he used to display his framed Marti report. He would talk to people about that car for hours. We always knew what to get him for Christmas, something Mustang related. He had a bunch of jackets, shirts, hats, etc..

We hate to sell it, but unfortunately we need to.

I haven't had a lot of luck with FB Marketplace, but Dad had good luck with Bring a Trailer years ago. That was one of the auction sites I was considering, pending any additional advice.

Condolences to you and your family.

Your father's Mustang has plenty of potential. To maximize that potential, I agree with @ib4stangs about having the car detailed. Also, take plenty of pictures in a nice setting, selecting the best ones for the listing, and having the additional ones on hand for if a potential buyer wants additional photos. Include photos of the Marti Report and any documentation/receipts your father retained. See how sellers have done theirs on Bring a Trailer for ideas. Spending a little money and time up front may provide bigger returns on the sale.

If your father had collector car insurance, you could check with the company and get ideas from them. Some (not all) of the writers and appraisers are collector car enthusiasts and are familiar with current values.

Finally, beware of shady dealers and ripoff artists. They are very active and will try to fleece you of your car. Stick with reputable venues for listing and selling.

I just posted the Marti report. The black paint is original. I've started to talk to detailers, but most haven't experience with classic cars, and since black shows up so much more when done badly, I'm trying to find the right place.

I haven't had a chance to contact JC Tayler yet, but they are on my list. I also just found some paperwork of my dad's, and it included the name of a classic car appraiser, along with a note that he appraised the car over 10 years ago. I'm going to reach out to him, and see if he can reappraise the car now.
