Console Top Lid question

The console lid in my car was evidently replaced with one that was brown. The paint was cracking and flaking, so I bought some vinyl paint and sprayed it black.
I don't drive the car much at all but it's cracking and flaking as before. Can these be painted successfully or should I seek a real black one? Anyone have one that's original black in good condition for sale?

For black, I'd probably just get a repop lid.

The lid in the Cougar needs to be recolored in the factory Medium Blue. I have all the supplies from SEM, so I plan to give it a shot.
