My 72's trans currently has trouble getting into 3rd. Also the tranny is making a noise that is most similar to a bad power sterring pump. Any ideas on whats going on?
If it's squalling like a power steering pump the metering rod is not moving it's full throw. Get it to the shop. They can identitfy it quickly before you overheat the clutch packs.
Its low transmission fluid. One of my cooler lines has a hole in it so no matter how much i put in it's not enough. Does anyone know where to get a new one or am i going to have to make one?
It only takes 1 pint low to start acting up and creating heat. Second gear and reverse clutch packs can fuse together quite easily given the heat from slipping. Drove a C6 stuck in reverse home through town at 3:00AM because of it. Which side of the road would you have taken? No alcohol was involved. But a 68 Camero was.
If anything I think the pump would be whats going. The noise was only there at idle and I got it to completely go away yesterday just before it left a giant oil slick in my driveway.
