On the top of the tank is a vent

It runs to the charcoal canister in the engine compartment

You usually can reuse the original

If it is missing email me I have some

Welcome from the Gulf Coast. And another Thanks for serving!
Im a houston native lol and thank you very much :)

Hi, 7 years forgotten, how was it possible to do this to?

Doesn't look too bad after this long break. I wish I find a model like this in my neighbour, but only in my dreams...

Very nice car :)
Some rich kid's first car and after the tank took a dump, he bought the wrong tank and just left it sitting out there for years... His loss my gain :D

I was very skeptical about the miles you mentioned, but after looking at the pics, I might have to rethink. The car looks really nice. Is the paint in decent enough shape to just do a partial and not repaint the whole car? If it has orginal paint - I sure would try to save what I could. Survivor cars are almost impossible to find in any kind of servicable condition.

Of course understand it is YOUR car. I am just offering a suggestion based on my opinion. It is fun to get the Marti report to help educate you as how your car was equipped from the factory.

Its not the original paint. Since it sat uncovered for 7 years the entire top of the car is fried. I did my research on it already and came up with: 1971 H code, 351c 2v, fmx tranny, 3.00 9inch axle, color was that ugly metalic brown and giner interior. Originally from Arizona, which explains why its in such good shape. It has spent most of its life between Arizona and El Paso. No rust no nothing and im a very happy guy to find this gem. I want to redo the whole interior and rebuild the rear end, tranny and maybe the motor and keep it as original as possible, with the exception of the NASA hood. Engine bay is completly un touched. A/C, PS, all the original A/C hoses, nuts, bolts, hose clamp everything. Only thing really missing is the air filter induction parts and the window washer tank. So what do you think? and any Suggestions on what companies to use to restore this beauty ?

Some more pics.

Welcome, and thanks for your service! That is a very nice find! Don at Ohio Mustang Supply is a great source of knowledge and parts.

I spent the summer between high school and college in Galveston, working on a tow boat... Spent many evenings in Houston, chasing tail. Is the Spaceland parachuting club still around? I took my first jump there in 1982 at the ripe age of 19.

"Suggestions on companies to restore this baby" You already E-mailed him. Don at Ohio Mustang.
Great to know :) thanks!!

Weather is really dry around here and most cars you will find have no rust. There is a guy about an hour or so from here that has a mustangs that would make good projects. You can look them up on the El Paso craigslist.

Welcome to the club from northern Nevada. Thank you for your service - glad to have you here!

How much of the restoration do you intend to do yourself? Great project.
I plan to do most of it myself lol. The only thing that i dont know how to do is rebuilding the engine and tranny and thats if they need it and a paint job. Other than that, im sure can handle the rest, hopefully lol.

Clazer,

Good looking car. It will make a great project. May I recommend you get her driving and determine what is absolutely necessary for starters.

As for the question on the fuel tank and vent. The vent has a foam filler which keeps raw fuel from running from the tank to the vent can under the hood.

Concerning parts: I have purchased all of my available parts from Obsolete & Classic Auto Parts here in Oklahoma City, including the fuel tank. The web site is [email protected] .

Also, know who machines and rebuilds the engine for you. Do not exchange it and loose the original engine. Same goes for the transmission.

I have a friend I have known for 34 years who was machining my engines while in high school, and still does today. He did my current 351 machine work and I assemble them myself. Actually this guy taught me a lot about rebuilding engines while I was in high school.

Now my little helper goes to the machine shop with me and helps clean and rework parts.

Last but not least; my FMX was rebuilt by another local guy who has a great reputation with the local race crowd.

If you need and help, just ask.

Welcome from SC, looks like bright blue metallic, check mine out.

Welcome to the site from TriCities, WA.

The southwest is a good spot to get cars from as they are generally rust free. Like you mentioned though the heat takes a toll on the interior and usually needs to be replaced. When I brought up my car from AZ I had to look out for the critters that were hiding in it mainly the Black Widow spiders. Good luck on your project, let me know if I can be of any help.
