Looking for Center Gauge Console

Looking for a center gauge console so I can add gauges to my car. Any color will work, I can refinish. Let me know if you have anything. Thanks in advance.

Or an interesting idea on where to mount some gauges that wont look like crap and be in my way.

Although I am doing a pretty high level restoration on my J Code vert, I will be adding a small set of aftermarket gauges as my car came with the "smart" lights....

I just invested $16k in the engine build (another no expenses spared part of the build)... I am not about to have no idea of oil pressure and water temp, etc. when this engine is running once the car is finished.

As in past '71's I have owned, I install the small three pod set up at the lower dash area just to the right of my right knee area ( abutting the centre console area). Just two screw holes needed and a big piece of mind provided... if I was doing a non-factory resto, I would install the factory gauge set up... good luck with your choice.

Thanks for the info. That is the same reason I am installing. While I have no where near that kind of money in my engine I still want to know what the oil pressure is and the temp. I will have to measure and see what kind of room is to the right there. I am concerned about hitting my knee on it.

So a repop bezel is $200 from ebay delivered sounds high but I paid $80

for mine and it arrived broken at the top with the woodgrain pretty cooked.

So now the $200 doesnt sound so bad IMO.

If you go the stock route, think about the wire harness to feed the gauges. If you go the aftermarket route, you will add your own wire. Also have to change out the sensors either way.

If you need a stock harness, I manufacture that 3 gauge cluster harness; it runs $50.

I bought some cheap mechanical gauges with a voltmeter as I hate

electric oil and temp gauges. Only needed +V, GRND and Light wires.

Even if you have gauges, looks good, the best reference for oil pressure is a BIG RED ***** LIGHT. Even NASCAR Formula 1 still puts them right in front of the driver. You don't go down the road looking at gauges in the center of the dash, very bad location, or much less on the bottom of the dash, even worse. If you do good luck on that rear end crash. That light is instant supply of info that you have no oil pressure not when you happen to look.

I have driven over 1,000,000 miles and never had an engine failure. If you build it right don't worry about the little things. Loosing oil pressure is not a common thing. Water temp is a more common problem, hose breaks or gets a hole. Hell I have not even taken the radiator cap off my Ford truck in 270,000 miles. Again if it is right it is right don't worry so much. A light will be seen way before a gauge on ZERO.

The center gauges do look good but pretty useless in a true failure unless you have a designated gauge watcher while driving.

The old Shelby center on top of dash gauge cluster was best location.

There are two different consoles one with wood grain and without. I might have both. Going through lots of stuff moving right now.

I agree on the lights. That is why I am planning to keep the lights functional and leave my existing wiring and sensors in place and going with some aftermarket gauges for added info.

The post in upper left corner of picture has a small crack as do two others,

otherwise they are intact. No missing pieces.

If you go with both lights and gauges would you have to install another set of sensors? Is there another place to install another oil sensor or water sensor? Could put a T in there I guess.

Water temp there are a couple spots to add the sensor. I haven't researched the oil pressure yet but that might require the T.

u will need a T for oil pressure, not a problem.. the water temp u can buy and new stat housing that has a fitting in the top for another sensor.. i get mine at auto zone and are alum.

It appears demand for used is so-so ($15 - $20) which is good for anyone looking to purchase. Biggest impact appears to be shipping.
