Hey guys, just thought I would ask if anyone has any old pulleys laying around that they would want to donate to my kart project? I can pay shipping of course. I am trying to put together a kart tire resurfacer for my sons kart program. I am doing it on the cheap with parts I have laying around the garage, but I cant seem to find any decent pulleys. I got a GE 110V motor from an old dryer, a craftsman stand, 1 " pillow blocks, and still looking for my old axle from our old kart to use and a hub. I will need a small pulley for the motor and a larger pulley for the axle to get the rpms down some. Here is a pic of a resurfacer...... my motor will be mounted to the bottom shelf of the stand so its not so top heavy. But you get the idea. I know the bigger pulley will need a 1"bore or I can just weld it to the end of the shaft :) And the small pulley I will have to find out what size the dryer motor shaft is. If you guys have any ideas where to get pulleys cheap let me know. Thanks for any input fellas!!!

I have been resurfacing his tires while on the kart and its a big pain in the butt!!! Hoping this will make life much easier to keep fresh tires on hand.

Another solution just run dirt and no build up, lol. Getting my son in a cart early was best thing I did for his driving of a car. He never had a crash in his car except a deer that ran into the side of him. We did only run dirt so tires were not such an expense.

I see they still run the old Briggs 5 hp. engines. When I was tool engineering manager at the largest lawn equipment mfg. in U.S. I could get the scratch and dent ones for $5.00 each. Amazing what those little engines can do and still a flathead. Over 20+ HP out of a modified.

I know a way to cheat that the tech guys cannot find in box stock, gives another .5 hp, lol. I got Briggs to start selling the uncut cams to the racers. I got them to send me 6 one time and would swap to a guy with cam grinder to cut my cams.

Great fun but lots of work as you know by now and it is not cheap if you want to compete.

I probably have pulleys but buried in the junk and would never find them.

I will have to check into some appliance stores. The motor is off a washing machine or dryer??

Yeah its not cheap but it sure is fun. We picked up a pretty good sponsor last year so that helps a lot!! My son started when he was 6. He will be 9 next month. And we do run on dirt! 1/8th mile dirt oval. And these days tires can make or break you in the dirt..... a lot of prepping to get the tires right. The 5hp Briggs flatheads are awesome. Although they are moving to the clone motors everywhere in the country, there is still a strong Flathead following here locally. In his class they run a restrictor plate between the carb and head to keep the little guys safe. My buddy got me a pulley for the motor just need to find a 1" bore pulley for the shaft. Hoping to get about a 6 inch diameter one to get in the rpm range we need to prep the tires.

Here's what our sponsor hooked us up with last year!!! 6x12 enclosed trailer with decals. I thought that was pretty awesome!!!

Kevin,

Check out my auctions on eBay for Browning Pulley / Shieves. They are listed under "Clevelandcoupe" There are a few, I believe for a 1" shaft. You could google the model # and get the actual specs on each one. You can have any or all of them for just shipping cost.

Let me know

Thanks, Jay
