saw a car posted locally on c list covered completely with mirror vehicle wrap. Looked like it was all chrome plated. Anyone have experience with this type of wrap? Got me thinking why couldn't one wrap an old bumper with the mirror wrap and have it looks like new chrome....

Hi there,

I haven't had anything to do with it myself, and know little about it. But i did a little quick research on the Net and came up with a fair bit on the subject.(don't you always) (( The only information that is not on the Net is who GOD really is and the Universe explained.:p))

I don't mind the look of the gold chrome as well as the regular chrome finish.I believe you can get colored chrome as well. I think that if you were going that way, you'd have to get a pro team in to do the job, and i think that if your car's body or paint work had imperfections, they would show up very noticeably in the final resulted finish. Also, i think that a chrome wrap finish would look stunning with our 123 Mustangs, as they carry a lot of black accents and trim as well. The black mixed with the chrome would be a fantastic look in my opinion.

Don't know what sort of money you'd be paying to a have a pro job done. (don't think it would be cheap myself). Also, i don't know what sort of life you would get out of the finished product, how durable it would be to scratches and knocks, and what sort of ongoing maintenance you would need to do keep it looking tip top. Lastly, if your metal front of rear bars had a smooth finish on already, i don't see why you couldn't wrap the bars as well. Although in my opinion again, i think there is no substitute for a top chrome job on the metal bars.

Thanks for all that info!.. I was more thinking of using it or having someone put it on bumpers and medium sized chrome pieces that no longer look good. Thought might be a cheaper route than chrome plating a bumper....

OK,

But by all accounts, it looks like it has a limited life - even on a bar.Try it, but the real deal rules in my honest opinion.

While living in China you would see the Whales driving their six figure cars with wraps on them. They would change every couple months just to show how much money they had.

It does not come out as smooth as chrome would but from probably 20 feet nobody would notice. Yes chrome is crazy expensive thanks to our EPA but got to keep the earth cleaner for the future.
