Painting help please

Yesterday a gear on the garage door broke and the door handle scapped off a strip of paint 1/2" wide x 3"long on the trunk to bare metal. I sanded and put on undercoating for the moment.

What is the best way to fill in the scrape so it is the same thickness as the rest of the paint?

Or what is the best way to repair?

You need to sand it and featheredge all the coats. I wouldn't try filling it. I would featheredge every coat an inch. Then spray it with a primer surfacer.

is there one that is recomended? i see spray cans from duplicolor at $6 a can to quart cans with seperate activators at $50. also lacquer based, epoxy based and urethane based. thanks for the help

You should have to paint the whole trunk lid again. Do you have the knowledge and equipment? If not, I would suggest taking it to someone who does.
