Looking for the history of my car

My 1971 Grande was sold 11/12/70

Sold through (75) Phoenix DSO

Vin 1F04H130104

According to the title;

Last owner;

Juan Manuel Chavez,

Title issue date 09/24/2010

Start by researching that last owner. Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.

Could also send him a certified letter - request a delivery receipt from the post office.

In your letter be sure and include pictures and let him know how well you are taking care of the car.

That would be your first start. At the same time try and see if the selling dealer is still in business. If you can't find it call other dealers currently in the area. Some old-timers might remember and have other connections for your research. I was very lucky and even had the old dealer send me pics of my Boss 351 sitting at the dealer for sale back in March of 1971! Lots of other cool stuff too.

Stay motivated and you will get something!!!!

I'm glad I don't know the actual history of mine. Based on the damage, seized engine, redneck-engineered mods & repairs, and then it was just left to rot, I'd probably want to punch my car's previous owners in the face. :whistling:

Well i found a guy on Facebook with same name and same city, Phoenix. I messaged him but i think there may be a language barrier a i don't speak Spanish

Read Mullen Ford was built in 1961 and demolished in 2009.

Almost all the dealerships have replaced their buildings over time, and many dealerships have changed hands. Two original buildings were lost in just the last four to five years. The Read Mullen Ford Dealership constructed in 1961, at 1550 E. Camelback Road, was demolished in 2009. The dealership was located at the intersection of two busy streets where waiting motorists would be drawn in through the well-lit showroom encased in glass with a wavy-edged roof line projecting toward the sky.

Read Mullen Ford had one awesome way to advertise there business;

The old dealership was indeed on 1st and Van Buren (28 East Van Buren). There was a publicity stunt at the location in 1959 where Lonesome Long John Roller lived in a Mullen Ford on top of a flagpole for 244 days, establishing a world record for flagpole sitting:

Is it just me, or does this remind anybody of the Ford dealership from the movie Road House (where they drive Bigfoot through the windows and crush a bunch of cars inside)?

I know of 4 previous owners for my car........ two of them were pimps and night club owners, one of them being THE infamous guy who would later be the one in control of all the bars and strip clubs in Lux.

As a friend of mine put it:" wow, imagine the amount of Russian a$$ your passenger seat must have seen!" :)

Hmmm, why do I suddenly feel envious towards a car seat? :D

Having emailed Read Mullens Grandson, Mike, and getting a reply to his email i thanked him for his response even though he could not help with the cars history he has emailed me again and asked for my address. He mentioned he still had a Decal that Read Mullan put on the cars at the time of sale. So i will wait and see what the postman delivers. Whatever comes in the post it will definately be a curve ball as the dealership closed 2009 and its Read Mullens grandson i am corresponding with. Will definately stay motivated now i am off to a flying start.

same here!

based on the previous owner's hackery on the driver side quarter and how they literally rivetted together sheet metal and threw some bondo ontop of it to make the quarter, i would sock them right in the mouth!

They might not have access to proper supplies due to personal circumstances, lack of knowledge, etc. I am sure everyone on this site can look back at a certain repair they were responsible for and today, just shake their head and say, "why"?

Last year I purchase a 73 vert that was from California and had at least two owners since the guy I bought from said he bought it used. When you bring an out of state car to North Carolina they send a DMV inspector out to check the VIN and verify it is not a stolen car or reworked VIN#. He got the VIN# went to his car and got on the computer. I do not know if he could see the owners names but he told me the car was stolen in 1974 and was recovered the next day. From that it tells me there is lots of info out there you just have to find the right person to access it.

Those were neat pictures from the past all the neon signs everywhere. 244 days on a flag pole in the heat, rain cold that is pretty tough.

Cut previous owners some slack...
My first was a 1971 Ford Escort. Bought it secondhand in 1983. Bright yellow, which was the most popular color at the time along with orange. I bashed the hell out of my first Escort and used buckets of filler to fill dents over many many times of denting the panels. Always seemed to be the same place i bashed and just knocked the old filler out and refilled a dent that got progressively bigger. lollerz

Been there, done that many times in my early car years... Did the best I could at the time. Today, my expectations are a lot higher... Live and learn.

Cool old pics of Reed Mullin ford! I used to work at five star ford in Scottsdale az and know this place well. It was bought out and changed to Mel Clayton Ford in the 80's. It was on the corner of 16st and Camelback Rd. Right next door to courtesy Chevrolet, which is still there. the ford dealer went out of business and the land sold.

As for the previous owner, the area he lives in is what we used to call the barnyard. Very run down and thick with gang activity. There was a homicide there once a week When I worked the south side of Phoenix. Very good chance he speaks only Spanish.
