Does any one have some rear window slats in most excellent condition they would like to part with? Let me know!;)

I just installed mine last weekend and they look awsome!!! If you looking for a decent price on them ,Summit has them for 250 bucks. They are very high quality black aluminum. They fit great and hardware seems to be of quality. I would definately reconmend them for the money !!! I will get my car out this weekend and get some pics to post up for ya. Heres a link to the summit ones. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-WL10556

Hey Turtle, the big question many of have that like the look but are concerned about even futher limiting visability from the rear view window... is there any visability left with them on?

Yeah they are not bad at all. the slats are almost flat when you look through the back window in the mirror and its not bad. Not bad enought to worry about at all! if i can i will try to take a pic from inside the car looking out the back window.

Heres a pic from the drivers seat looking in the rear view. Visibility isnt that bad at all with the louvers installed. And they look killer!!! Sorry no pics of the outside, the car was dirty!!

No i havent had a chance to clean it up yet. Been remodeling the bathroom and i have drywall dust all over the car in the garage from doing my cuts out there. I just got home tonight from riding quads up at camp all weekend with the family. I will definately get one this week!!! Sorry for the delay guys!

How does the louvers mount at the top bracket still goes under the window channel chrome trim?

I bought a louver from mustangs unlimited years ago,

what happened was a had what might of been an original window louver it was thick aluminum black paint, had a top hinge, it had mounts that went into the window channel at the top it tucked under the chrome. problem was parts were missing from it, the top plate wrecked the chrome trim, i could not find parts and i had to replace the rear window and seal. so i ended up throwing it out.

i got the new one and i felt it was a piece of crap compared to the original one i had. the mounts were cheap bent aluminum the metal was thin and weak, the top bracket slid under the chrome trim and it caused it to pop up and looked bad. the bottom mounts stuck to the glass with double sided tape. i had it on the car for 2 hours, and i felt it looked cheap and i felt it would rip off the car when i drove it. i took it off, 2 years later i traded the whole thing for an original spare tire.

So i'm wondering if its similar to the one i had, there was only one company at the time that made them, and they were not made of ABS plastic back then.

The older good louvers were made by Hammond

Stronger, thicker, covered the whole window

Now it is Astra / Hammond and ...

ah so i must of had the remains of a hammond.

don got any complete hammonds worth installing ? :D

Had a real nice set I was saving

Had a local guy keep bugging me for them - I kept saying no

He bought the new ones from Unlimited - sent them back.

Last time he came here he pulled out 5 - 100 dollar bills

He left with some nice louvers. I wish I had more

I have a set that I've been holding onto for eons. They are the heavy metal type. They are the same as the ones on my 73. They use the hinge that slides under the upper stainless and two lock down screws that slide under the lower side stainless. Problem is, they are missing the upper hinges. Email me at [email protected] and I can sent you pics. Figuring on $300 for the louvers/slats. Bob

I looked at them the other day and they do have the upper hinges but are missing the side hold down pins.

LOL, if you are worried about rear visability, I wouldnt have bought a 71-73 Mach. Probably the only worst rear visability car is my 63 split window Vette.

I do have a solution though, Dedicated rear camera mounted in the dash. Thats my solution

Don why do you make me cry ;-)

also i did have them on my car originally and rear visibility was not effected. remember the slats match the angle of the rear window and you see them on edge.

what i didn't like about them was they slipped under the chrome trim at the top. the 1970 ones have to be the best ones since the hinge had to be drilled into the roof of the car with a gasket and didn't mess up the chrome window trim.

Heres a couple of pics of the louvers i installed a few weeks ago. Sorry for the delay. The upper mount does slide under the chrome trim but it doesnt hurt it or affect it in any way. I really like these and got a few good compliments at a car show/ benefit that we went to over the weekend.
