Great news, I scored a near perfect hood from a great Mustang guy in North Georgia!  He said his installer put the stripes on backwards, then he went with a scooped version of the hood instead.  I will pull these stripes, this is the color my finished car will be, Wimbledon White, with Sprint stripes in place of these.

Status of trunk, the inside is stripped of all rust and sealed up, it will get some additional coats of finish as project progresses.

I started with a trunk floor and wheel wells covered in many layers of paint and some sort of hard black asphalt with spot rust popping through and some bubbling loose bondo.

I got it down to bare metal, used phosphoric acid to neutralize the rust, and refinished. In the wells, I added some fiberglass and resin, as well as some bondo to smooth it out.   The brown you see is a layer of rubber sealer reacting with a layer of paint, I tried some undercoating products to add back texture but it didn’t really work, now it’s just another later of sealer….it will get more color over it…

I am not completely done, might grind some of it a bit smoother, and add some seam sealer….but it’s way better than it was and should last my lifetime…

Now, that looks a lot better! Hope it is sealed well and will last many years  :thumb:
I hope so, wirewheeled all metal, then phosphoric acid etching and more wire brush, then cleanup,in the wells- then fiberglass and resin, tried to fill all cracks and crevices with resin, and coat all bare metal with it down in the wells, then light sanding, then primer, one side got an undercoat rubber texture that sadly made no texture, both sides so far got 2 coats of rustoleum over that, and will get additional coats later after more general bodywork.  Also will get a coat of “spatter spray” to add texture, finally followed by a plaid mat for general protection….

Generally the trunk got a lot of seam sealer redone inside, will get the same around back and wells when I work more on outside…and new gas tank gasket set all around…

also doing fender and valance work, disassembled tail lights and valance light for some rehab….

thoughts, advice on pinholes and trim holes in fender? Bondo and seal and forget them? Think budget driver car….

Score and after, no cleanup yet, very little paint fade, those stripes were on 6+ years!

The right way to do this is to weld patches on it or plug weld the holes, but that can create a lot of work, potential panel warping, and potential to just blow out the thin metal while welding. You can plug weld those holes by using a piece of copper (a pre-1982 penny will work) as a backer to the hole. This will need to be a slow process with a lot of cooling so that you do not warp the steel of blow it out.

Hope this helps, pick your method, all will work. BTW I am not a body man, I am very much an amateur body guy, and not a very good one, still learning.
