I was test fittingcthe new honeycomb panel and the mounting hardware from AMK is about 1/4" shorter than original hardware. Anyone else run into this?? I cannot get the acorn nuts to take thread. Big pain in ass. May end up have to use standard nuts instead of the acorn nuts but that will look like crap.

Yup - and I discovered and did the same thing (regular nuts with thin washers).  Mine's hidden behind a carpet kit, so I really didn't care about the acorn nuts.

Actually now that I think about it, once I had them all fastened and snugged down, I was able to get a thread or [almost] two of the acorn nuts on. Hope that works for you, too. ::thumb::

Thanks for the heads up Eric! I hope they will work on the lower body moldings! I bought an extra pack for the decor group lower moldings. If I remember right that little pack of fasteners was $25-30!! Pretty ****** they can't get the length right at that price!

I think the decor group rocker molding secures onto the body with those little pins that are like the ones for the windshield and back light trim.  I don't see why they wouldn't work, though... in the absence of the pins, that is.

They use a combination of the pins and bolts.

Gotcha.  I remember grinding the pins off the doors, but my fender pieces (all 4) were MIA, and there were no holes (I'm guessing the PO filled 'em during the repairs that were made).  I think I do remember them on the quarters, now that you mention it.

Good luck with it, Brutha!  You're doing great work on that car - lookin' awesome! ::thumb::

I never noticed they changed those and no one told me

I will find an original and send it to them along with the info that they are too short.

Were those Carpenter, Drake, or AMK fasteners, just out of curiosity?

I'm glad to find this thread. I just got the rear honeycomb plate kit from npd. Now I need to check the length of the fasteners.

I have one of the AMK bumper to bumper complete fastener kits for my 72 CJ vert. Nice little bags all labeled. I am very disappointed in their fasteners. Pretty much none of them are like the originals. Makers marks different. Different finish, different lengths. And the say MCA approved as original.

I experienced the same this with this AMK fastener. Ended up finding a guy in CA that finds used ones and gets them re-plated. If needed I will see if I can find his contact email.

I just got the kit from NPD Parts. It also has the short fasteners. I am going to have to call them and see if they will ship me the longer ones. Thanks for the heads up.

I had the same issue, fortunately, I had enough of the original ones. I checked the AMK catalog and they don't have any with longer studs in the same style. Here are a few other possibilities that may have more thread to them.

I heard that the Acorn nuts are not available anymore so keep your old ones.

The hardware I got with my npd parts had the acorn nuts in them.
