Transmission and driveshaft

Is the fitting on the drive shaft that slides into the transmission keyed so that it fits only one way. Having a hard time getting mine to slide in far enough so that the U-joint fits into the differential. Just though I would ask the knowledge base before I struggled with it again tonight. Thanks in advance.

They are usually evenly splined. Maybe put a little lube on the inside and outside of the slip yoke.

I'd make sure that there isn't anything inside of the slip yoke that would interfere with it slipping on.

Has it all been together before? 9" center sections have slightly different overall lengths and aren't always interchangeable. Keep in mind that your transmission yoke will normally be discolored to indicate where it was in relationship to the rear seal in the transmission. Remember that proper fit allows for movement as the suspension is compressed and unloaded. The driveshaft is effectively "shortest" when the car is sitting on the suspension.
