Two years ago I replace the front end including the upper control arms.

Last year in the spring I had to replace the upper ball joints because they were ripped! Replaced them with Moog units.

Just was out cleaning my wheels and noticed that one was ripped again all the grease came out!

Last year I only put about 400 miles on it.

What could be causing this?

The only thing I haven't changed are the spindles.

Any thoughts?

f117rt,

I did a Google search and there looks like there is a problem with the ball joint boots ripping prematurely. I suspect it is poor quality in the rubber part. I believe that Moog has lifetime warranty on their parts!

Note: I found these reproduction ball joint seals (Dust Seal - Ball Joint - Upper - Repro) from West Coast Classic Cougars. They fit the 1967 to 1973 Cougars. The upper and lower arms are the same between the 1971--1973 Cougars and Mustangs. I noticed the metal washer around the top of the boot. Interesting! This might be there to help with wear from the top of the spindle. You sure do not see these in the aftermarket versions.

This might be an alternative solution to your problem. I hope this helps.
