Man, I am bummed to hear about that, but glad to hear everything else is OK, for the most part. After you get a chance to heal and assess the damage, let us know how bad things got. I know taking pics of sad things is no fun, but it might give us a chance to see how things are and perhaps share some insight.

Best wishes and thoughts for some type of recovery.

Doc

It's too bad for the bright yellow coupe. Spoke with Ron earlier and know he's in good spirits...so game on.

I want to change his screen name to something like:

Toastmaster

The hoseman

Banana's Foster

Burnt Banana

Fire Startin' Ron

Fire breather

911 Ron

Memphis heat

I was replacing floor panels and nicked a fuel line. The ensuing flames got out of control very quickly. I had the wife call 911 while I got the garden hose and tried to keep the flames from getting to far out of control. The fire department came and hosed everything down. What a mess!! The dash is completely melted along with the heater box, all the wiring, interior panels, and the roof sags 2-3 inches. I'm thinking this car is toast. I am so bummed out right now. I don't know what the insurance company will do for/to me. But I know I have a big mess to try to clean up, so I can assess my losses. :(

So what did I do to my car today? I wound up setting it on fire and nearly burned my garage down. I would not recommend anyone else try it.
Holly Cow! Glad every one is ok!

Had a great day with the Mustang. I welded in the tail light panel. It figures I'm just about done and I run out of wire for the welder.:dodgy: Oh well wasn't going to stop there. Next to remove the custom lowering springs.:D Then I spent the rest of the day sanding the outer aprons. I'm real pleased how clean the aprons turned out. I wanted to shoot some primer before the end of the day,but the wife wanted me to hang out with her.:dodgy:

So... no ideas on the bumper bolts?
Eric,

The screws are stainless

If you try and weld a nut to them you will melt the bumper

The easiest way is to take a torch and QUICKLY blow off the steel J nuts on the back side

Put a wet rag on the bumper and bolt face

The steel J nut will melt faster than the stainless - as soon as it melts hit the screw out before it can heat up the urathane - used the rag or water to cool that area

Then move onto the next one

Thanks Don (and Scott, too)!

I wasn't aware they were stainless. I'll need to check the bumper bolt kit I purchased and ensure I got the correct kit (the one with the J nuts).

I was talking with my pal Jim yesterday, and I think I'm going to try an air chisel on the J nut first. If I get no joy, I'll give the torch a try (I know I don't trust myself not to melt the urethane, so I'll save it as a last resort).

WOW, bummer but the main thing is that your family is safe and you weren't hurt. If you have full coverage your insurance company should set things right with you, it was an accident, that's why you pay your premiums; to cover the oops in life. Your homeowners policy should also cover any smoke damages and water damages to your home(usually the fire department causes more costly damages than the fire when they hose the house down)

I wanted to shoot some primer before the end of the day,but the wife wanted me to hang out with her.:dodgy:
That reminded me of one my favorite Al Bundy quotes:

"Women... you can't love with them..... Period!"

:D

Nah, just kidding. say Hello to the missus from us.

Nice job on the taillight panel. Looks nice and clean.

Mike you met my wife, you know I'm a lucky guy. But I really did want to shoot some primer.:dodgy:

Don at OMS saved my ass and got me some parts quick so I could get the car going again. Catastrophy stuck and my accelerator cable let go.

Installed a new Accelerator Cable, New Lower Shifter Boot(For a 1970) but it fit great, rebuilt my equalizer bar and adjusted the clutch free play.

My clutch feels a 1000 times better now not so mushy. Positive engagement now when I push.

Supposed to have my new clutch fan, Summit Carb Plumbing Kit and Silicone heater hose on Saturday to install. Finally get rid of my direct drive fan setup.
