Seats look good!

I replaced the cvr and now the gauges work again. I have to put it all back together. With any luck at all I will get to drive it today.

Oh, and I got the console clock working again. It would work before but you have to 'coach it' to start moving by moving the second hand. This isn't possible when it is installed.

The movement had been replaced at some point in time. I took some 'electrical cleaner' and sprayed the assembly and now it works. I just need to figure out what kind of grease I should put on the gears.

Next time you get it running and it happens to die on you carefully touch the case of the coil, I'll bet it will be very hot. Accel says the coil is internally resisted but they won't last long without an additional ballast resistor wired in before the coil. Totalled is completely right about Accel coils being junk, they aren't what they used to be. I'm sure you will get it figured out.
Thanks for the great advice, Mike! I'll do that. ::thumb::

I honestly didn't notice any heat issues with the coil, although I wasn't actually looking for that specifically. After it croaked, the first thing I did was to check the solenoid, voltage regulator, Duraspark module, coil, and distributor base to see if they were excessively hot - none of them were... so I more or less ruled out heat issues.

Any recommendations for a replacement? I'd really like to have a canister coil that will put out the 45,000 volts and be able to mount horizontally.

Seats finally going it. I went with leather which has created a few minor challenges but all and all going well.
The seats DO look good! I can't wait to get to the same point of reassembly with mine. Good job! ::thumb::

Drove it! Yeah baby. First time in a couple of weeks and still catching up on a bunch of stuff that I started. It felt great. Top down, 83 degrees, sun on the horizon. Still working out a few bugs but it is coming together. Even better the 'broken' gas gauge started working. The bummer is after having the dash out the speedometer doesn't work. I guess I didn't get it back in correctly. That's tomorrows problem.

Thanks Eric! I know the feeling, it seems like I've been working on it forever. Here's the latest...painting some of the interior parts.
What did you do for the e-brake and that speaker in the driver side kick panel? I have those same Q-logic panels, and mine's almost too tight with just the panel itself (no speaker).

Lookin' good! Can't wait to see it all back in there! ::thumb::

I actually just removed the e-brake for now. I'm going to modify it somehow and put it back in at some point. I saw a post by Greg (Austin Vert) a while back where he modified his. I'll have to look back at it when I decided to tackle it. Here's a few pics from today...not much work done, mostly just beer drinking! :) I know that my stripe is not technically correct (for all the original freaks out there! :)) but I like to dare to be different.

Cheers!

Yeah... I've been thinking about doing the same thing.

Freaken gorgeous, Bro. Your painter did a beautiful job. ::thumb::

Thanks Eric, he is bad ass!

I figured what do I need an e-brake for anyway...I've had the car for 15 years and never used it yet. But...still want to modify it and put it back in at some point.

Got fed up looking at all the project car crap piled over the nice Spectra trunk floor that I spent weeks welding into my '71. It reminded me too much of the Craigslist specials I've been seeing of recent. Cleaned it out of everything short of the spare rim. Now it looks nice.

Then I went and did the same on the Lincoln Mark V, only to get my day ruined by this:

Oh, joy. At least it looks like I can repair the center section by installing a '71-73 trunk floor in reverse.

Whether I'll do so is another matter, but...Ford interchangeability FTW!

-Kurt

P.S.: Why is it that my first inclination was to photograph the rusted trunk of the Lincoln, rather than all my effort on the Mustang? Is it a car guy thing to have a secret fetish for rust?

Drove it. Got the speedo working again. Replaced the dash cover with a new one. Got the custom car radio bolted in place (not working yet) and the console back in place. Broke the broken clock trying to fix it. Broke it GOOD! So I will probably send it off to rocketman. Washed it.

Today i will drive it to work. I think it is supposed to be around the 80's this afternoon. Should be nice for top down.

Yesterday, got the doors, valances, marker bezels, mirrors, and all the rest of the small parts to the painter. His body guy already had the fenders sanded down and was working on repairing the small pits and pinholes in the hood's front cross-member.

He just called me varifying the paint code so he can get started on painting the small parts once they're prepped.

Yay!

Drove it! (again). First longer drive with the GV installed and I have to say I really like it. The 20 miles of freeway to work is more pleasant. I can keep up with traffic at 75mph and the RPM's are around 2700 instead of 3500. It's just a pleasure to drive now on the freeway. I have found the 1st to 1st over to be a lot of fun but I still don't 'trust' it enough to get into 1st over quick enough. You have to time it right since at the slower speed there is a slight delay going into OD. Even normal traffic is funner. At 40 or so I can just slip it out of OD for a litte more torque. It is just a lot of fun.

Started it for the first time in 6 months! Ran it for 20 minutes, no leaks and sounding good. Loud with the open headers!

Next step is to finish installing the dash and interior and bleed the brakes so I can make sure it rolls down the road!

Eric, you are making great progress!! I can't wait to see it after paint!
I wish we had some kind of a "Like ::thumb::" button we could paste on these replies.

But since we don't: Thanks Man! I can't wait either. ;) :D

Installed the front shoulder belts (original refurbished style) that I received from SSnake-oyl. Installation fairly easy once I located the correct mounting points and got my nerve up to poke the holes in a perfect headliner.

Turned out great, and now my wife will ride in the car.

A little broken record here. I drove it again! 4 days to work in a row. The weather here in Phoenix is sweet. I drive with the top down both to and from work. I am still on a high from getting the gear vendors installed. I am having so much fun. It is hard to believe this was my daily driver for over a decade. I always enjoy driving it but now it seems more sweet.

I had a GV in my 88 F250 4x4. To me it was worth it's wait in gold. I just sold my AOD. I'm going back to my original plan of running a GV behind the C6. Glad to know it's working out for you.
Mike
