Not all today but in recent weeks we installed a new gas gauge, speedometer cable, fuel pressure gauge, printed circuit board, scott drake LED's for the gauge cluster {they work and look great with no issues from turn signals/hazards/high beam indicator}, new stereo system, horns and a bit of bodywork:)

Interior and top finally done! A little tweaking to do but over I'm happy! Decided to go with all leather interior...sorry about all the finger prints, I was too excited to take the time to shine it up...

SWEET!! ::goodjob:: ::beer::

Which steering wheel is that? 15" Grant Classic? That's the look I'm after.

I also like the early-model Mustang emblems on the door panels - nice touch! (I also have a set to add to my Deluxe panels after I replace the woodgrain with carbon fiber vinyl).

I just got back from the body shop - things are moving along nicely! This is the most 'back-together' the car's been since I've owned it. The body guy almost has everything lined up (still needs a little tweaking on the door gaps, hood gaps, etc.) and we're almost ready for a last shot of primer.

Shouldn't be much longer before some color goes down.

I walked out into the frozen pole barn---walked up to the car----touched the hood and thought

I know its a heap but.........it will look like a streamlined butterfly

I just spent the last 2 hours at the paint shop laying down the TuTone hood stencil - and had a GREAT time doing it. ::thumb::

The painter told me up front that he wasn't the greatest with placing stripes and whatnot, and that he'd bug me to make sure it was where I wanted it before he shot color.

Well... he didn't lie. The front piece of the stencil was about 3/4 inch too far back from the leading edge - my mistake when I dropped it off (as I told him to start the stencil from the edge of the molding, instead of the front edge of the hood - like the instructions said - my bad)... I can live with that, though... but it was also about a half-inch too far to the passenger side as well (and already stuck down). Yeah... can't live with that.

He's also painting the blacks first, then the color - which struck me as weird, because the TuTone stencil is designed to lay down over base color for the black out paint to be applied. But - it came to me that by painting the black rockers first, he won't have as much of the car to mask off (just the skirts around the bottom) when he shoots color. OK... it makes sense, and at the end of the day - I don't really care as long as the color and blacks are in the right places.

So. I borrowed a tape measure and (re)placed the trailing stripe on the driver side to match the passenger side. He was a little freaked out that I eyeballed it and got it right the first time (I've done stripes before... it wasn't my first time). Then I (re)placed the passenger side (it was trailing a little toward the center of the car as it got to the windshield edge), and measured both sides - they both about 1/4" off of what the stencil said, but at least they're even and straight - I can live with that. So then I peeled off the front piece on the driver side of the NACA duct, and used some 1/2" and 1/4" striping tape to lay out the curves to match the passenger side - and got 'em within a few millimeters of matching the passenger side perfectly... and I can live with that as well. Now, all he needs to do is mask off the center portion (since it's already black) and spray the color.

In his defense: the stencil is somewhat of a PITA to work with. It says not to use any water or solution to make it able to be repositioned, so it's pretty much a one-shot deal (it'll stretch and distort if you pull it back up). It's also flat, and the hood is chocked full of surface features. There's also the optical illusion of the carrier layer to work through as well. I gotta give him props for calling me in to help him get it right before shooting color as well. He also told me he should've just let me put it down from the beginning, but I was at work and he's now trying to get my car done so I can get it back (and out of his shop as well, I'm sure rofl )

So - crisis averted. It won't be "perfect," so I can't be critical of other TuTone treatments anymore (unless they're just really bad ;) ), but at least I was able to avoid a really bad mess that would've needed another stencil and repaint (as in: more time and materials). I'm also putting together a website for him, so I'm thinking I should also be able to get a solid chunk of cash knocked off the bill as well.

I still SO cannot wait to see it colored and shiny - should be either tomorrow, or the next day - depending on if the 35-40mph winds finally die down a bit. His booth is very well sealed and has great positive pressure... but as windy as it is, there's [obviously] still a greater chance of getting trash in the paint than when it's calm.

I FINALLY found the time to turn my rear spoiler around. Unfortunately I did not re drill new holes in the trunk lid. Now it sits too far back. See the pictures. Did it look worse mounted backwards or mounted too far back? I do like it better now. Where can I find the exact measurements or template to show me the correct placement?

Very nice car, I'm not sure how much you could move the spoiler forward without uncovering the holes towards the back of the car. Below is a pretty useful link I use to figure out where everthing goes.

Kurt... you are too much. The PO mounted it that way. I wasn't educated enough on our cars to realize it. The minute I posted pixs here on the forum, it was pointed out very quickly. I can say that almost everytime I spend time browsing on this forum... I learn something.

Thanks...

It's a spoiler on a 1973 T5 Mach 1 coupe - you have a right to mount it backwards, Sergeant Hartman.

Awesome progress, Eric. Can't wait to see it in color.

Should be later this evening - I got new pics (but I'm at work right now)!!

I got a call last night from the painter (I was out of the office at the time), so I went by today during lunch. Paint's done!!! He'll be cutting 'n' buffing next, so I should actually have the car back early next week. He also forgot to paint the bezels on the rear marker lights (they were still attached to the lights themselves - Bobby forgot to get them ready as a result).

I looks sweet! I'll have a little bit of adjustment of things like end caps, trunk lid, etc., to do when I get it back, but I'm totally OK with that.

SO Excited!!! ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::

Thanks... I was trying to look at that pix on my phone. I couldn't figure out what it was. I can see it clearly now, on my son's tablet. Thanks for the measurements. I may be able to move the pedestals up a bit and still cover the existing holes.

Those measurements are on a fastback deck lid

There never was a spoiler on a coupe so you will have to wing it for diamentions.

You need to watch where it goes due to the inner bracing being in a different location on fastback VS coupe

You can get threaded rod to make longer studs so you don't have to cut large holes in the bracing - if that is where the studs end up being.

OK guys... here it is:

He's still gotta wet-sand and buff it all out, so I should get it back sometime next week.

Whaddaya think? Should I tell him to sand it all down and 'restore' it back to how I first found it?

HELL YEAH!!!!!

::congrats::

Eric, you and that car are an inspiration to us all. May I extend a virtual handshake and a virtual beer ::beer::
