I had ruled out the Funnelweb long ago as a candidate for my 408c build due to it being 1-3/8" taller than an RPM Air Gap intake. I was told that an XB Falcon with the NASA hood will fit clear the hood when fitted with a 3" drop base air cleaner.

Have any of you tried to fit a Funnelweb under the hood? It's my understanding that the answer is a resounding NO, but wanted to ask, just to be sure. I'm wondering if, by design, the Falcon has more hood to engine clearance than a Mustang.

The Funnelweb will NOT fit under our NACA hoods even with a drop base air cleaner and short 2" air filter. If you are looking for a similar high HP single plane that will fit under our hoods the CHI 3v intake (for CHI 3v heads only) or CHI 4v intake (for factory 4bbl heads) will fit IF the intake carb pad is milled about 5/8th's inch. CHI will mill the carb pad for you as will any local machine shop. The Funnelweb to my knowledge can not take much if any pad milling.
Also the CHI 4v intake manifod requires "port stuffers" be installed in the factory 4bbl heads intake ports for proper transition.
Sounds like a lot of work but really pretty simple.
Good luck with your project!

@Cleveland Crush This build is getting and early version of AFD 4v heads, so the funnelweb will align nicely with the AFD ports....it's my understanding that the CHI 3v will also be a bolt on fit, but I haven't dug into that one too deep. I just started the process of filling the ports on a Torker and this tidbit about the XB Falcon came up on the cleveland FB group.

Is the CHI intake you refer to a single or dual plane?

CHI I'm referring to are both single plane intakes, but CHI also makes a dual plan which I have no personal experience with. Good luck.
From your experience with the CHI intakes, is it the 3v port that matches up to the AFD 4v head?

I just got off the phone with Terry Parker....what a great guy! Makes me want to cut a hole in my hood! lol

Do you happen to know what the carb pad to china wall height is on the milled intake? How much extra clearance does that give and what is the air filter config? Trying to understand how much too tall the funnelweb is.

Carb pad to China wall is approximately 6-1/4" with a shaved pad CHI 3v intake. Previously I used a K&N full flow 14"×3" drop base cleaner. I prefer a not drop base and switched over to K&N's 2" tall non drop. The 2" non drop cleaner is really close but it does clear the NACA hood.

Here's some additional intake info that may be helpful.

I used a torker intake on my 408 with afd heads. It works great but we did have to epoxy the intake to port match the heads.
Yeah, I talked to you about this a while back. I just started the port filling process....I'm about 1/2 way through. Learning a lot! An aussie guy with an XB Falcon (uses very similar hood to our cars) has a Funnelweb on his AFD headed cleveland so I was just double checking....my initial research was correct....doesn't fit under the hood.
