Still way too much salt on the roads around here for driving. The last thing I want is salt dust getting into the seams etc. It would only take a bit of rain or a wet road for the rust to start up. No thanks, I'll wait.
Yeah it has been warm here for a while now. No snow since early Jan. Had a couple of good rain showers to wash the roads off.

it's been the weirdest winter I seen here in the 51 years I've lived on this side of the pond. We've had only about 6" of snow all winter and most of that was a 1/2" at a time.
70 deg here too today, was supposed to rain, but turned out sunny and warm, likely a record for SW Ontario.
It's "global warming ya know!!"....... or more likely a shift in the earth's axis. Ok, not for discussion.

EDIT: Weird indeed in SW Ontario! Feb 27 = 70 f. Feb 28 = 50 f. Feb 29 forecast for 32 f. Lovely weather eh!

Last two days

I made a pedal stop for my hydraulic (malwood) clutch.

You might consider adding a overflow vent in the tank to protect from over pressure in the radiator and heater core. See attached pix of my installation.
Not to criticize what you have done with the coolant overflow, and something I've asked myself before, but why do you need an overflow on a 71? I don't have, nor has there ever been an overflow on my 71 and I've never seen a need for one, it's never overflowed. Possibly on the 73 one was installed due to "regulations", but that's it.
I'm just curios.
 
I believe the function of the overflow tank is to allow the coolant to expand into the tank when hot and return to the radiator when cool. This process eliminates air pockets in the radiator. The function of a surge tank is similar but it is under pressure and upstream of the pressure relief radiator cap.
 
Stanglover is correct in that the system will function fine without the overflow tank. You will just end up with a little less coolant and more air in the system.

That said, I am not sure if this is more of an issue in cross flow radiators vs vertical flow radiators.

An overflow tank will capture any fluid rather than dump it on the garage floor or roadway causing an "environmental catastrophe"!
Jokes aside, I've not had to add any coolant because it's noticeably down, so not been a concern. I do however, drain off a gallon and refresh every couple of years, making sure the level is correct. Adding too much will for sure cause an overflow until it levels out.
 
I installed a brass nipple and a 90 degree elbow in place of the plug for the TV pressure on my AOD Tranny. Then I installed a pressure sending unit on the elbow and ran the cable to the engine compartment. I then plugged it into a digital pressure gauge inside the engine compartment. Now when it comes to setting the TV pressure at the throttle body I have the gauge at the ready at any time. I also and ran a heat sleeve over the sensor and about two foot of the cable to protect it from the exhaust. Now I DONT have to jack the Stang and shimmy under it to install the pressure hose for an external pressure gauge every time I need to check or reset the TV pressure. Its all now very convenient. No drip no fuss!

I have the exact same collector/reservoir. I had to jury rig a clamp to secure it. Where did you get your clamp?
The clamp came with it, as well as the aluminum fittings to the car. I just painted them black. Gorgeous car by the way.

Mine did not come with any clamps...unfortunately. Thanks for the compliment. He's a head turner! I say he because my custom plates say BLK STLN. So the stallion caint be a she!
 
I have a small bottle attached to my overflow hose. It is not very noticeable. I prefer to keep coolant off the floor of my garage floor. The amount of coolant that ends up in the bottle is minimal. I have pets and ethylene glycol is poisonous to animals. My wife is a pathology tech at RI's main hospital's toxicology lab and they often receive samples from veterinary clinics where animals have consumed coolant. Coolant tastes sweet and our furry friends don't know any better. She has had to perform screenings for ethylene glycol on humans as well, although those are mostly done on people who are trying to kill themselves. Not a peaceful death. Strange World.

What a winter we've had here is SW Ontario........... it missed us and went right to spring. Well maybe. Still time for a snow storm or two until the end of April.
Today, it was a beautiful sunny day at 50 deg f. I needed to put some sh*t away on the shelving above the Mustang, so I had to wake up the old girl and move her out into the driveway. I let her run for about 20 mins, put the sh*t up on the shelving, then put her back to bed for another month or so.
I must say, it was nice to spend the time, go through the start up procedure, fire it up and let it warm up, all while wearing just a light jacket.
All in all a fun day to get the juices going again.

Same here of course, but rather than get the car out too soon, still salt on the roads, I'm looking forward to getting my road bike (bicycle) out for the first 20 mile ride of the year. That's a short one by the way. I'm not usually riding until the end of April.

I have to wait until tomorrow when the rain comes and washes away all the salt on the roads. They love to dump lots of salt on the roads in RI.
