'73 4 speed, rebuild or buy a new shifter?

Mark at Toploader Heaven had a How To on his site for cleaning and adjusting the shifter. Normally, that's all they needed. His site is gone, but it's on the Wayback Machine.

I have a near new Hurst Comp Plus shifter and linkage but missing the transmission attachment that I recently removed from my car, a 73 351 Q code, that I am willing to part with at a discount. PM if interested. I did a TKO 600 5 speed swap.

I recently rebuilt my Toploader, if you still need help I have pics from this Toploader.

The shifter on mine is brand new, needed some small modification to fit the mount.

But I'm sad the previous owner didn't keep or rebuilt the original shifter.

well I can know tell you that the following parts do not fit a 73 Mexican Mach 1. the linkages are wrong and the bolt pattern to connect the shifter is wrong.

but, I was able to adjust the original shifter enough without a rebuild kit to get a decent detent for Reverse without binding. its about 80% good. a rebuild kit will get it to 100%
