I got my quarter windows working smoothly after I lubricated the mechanisms AND the tracks.

One of the wires going into the can was exposed so I took it out to fix it. After I got the wire fixed I applied 12v to test it and there were horrible noises coming from inside, so I took it apart and cleaned it out.

That said, who ever tried to fix it last must have had the mantra "grease is the way". It was outside the motor, all over the tracks, on the window base, but what was inside was old and crusty.
