UPDATE.

Engine Builder ran into a minor "snag" with the Comp roller lifters apparently dumping oil pressure when the oil pump was turned by hand at or near maximum lift. It was dropping from 85 pounds to around 20 pounds. It was as if the relieved portion of the lifter body got pushed up into the oil galley. After taking some measurements, it was decided to go with a set of Morel lifters and they have resolved the problem:).

He has now trial fitted the valve train and ordered the appropriate push rods. The Intake Manifold is also now on the engine.

...the journey continues.

I remember Dan Jones reporting a similar issue with certain roller lifters on clevelands. It pays to check, Kudos to DM.

Yes, I am THOROUGHLY impressed with his thoroughness and attention to details.

Remember, there are awards "on the table" for the member(s) who come closest to the final HP and the final torque numbers.

For "Regular" Members, that would be a paid upgrade ($25.00 value) to VIP status.

For "VIP" Members, it will be a $25.00 credit in the "Cafe."

Also, both "Winners" will receive an Icon documenting their "win."

Update.

On Friday, the Engine Builder advised he had received the push rods, installed them and installed the rocker arms. Upon trying to install the rocker arm stud girdles, he realized I had acquired the incorrect girdles from Jomar.

The ones I acquired (back in 2011) are actually for the A460 valve layouts and my Trick Flow Street heads require the layout for regular Ford valves. I called Jomar and they readily agreed to send out the correct girdles...Outstanding customer service from Jomar, I might add.

...the journey continues:)!

Dang-

BT, Every time I see you have posted I check to see that I have won. If not an actual WIN, to see how close I was!

But noooooo, not yet! I am ready to see those numbers!!!!!!!

All good - glad you are making progress! :)

Better than I can say for myself :(

I know, I know!

I am thinking it will be on the dyno sometime this week:)!

Engine Builder has advised that the new girdle has been received and the motor is all buttoned up.

He has a big block Chevy that is going on the dyno first but it looks like the 545 will be "going on" very soon.

Here is a photograph of the short block prior to the final touches.

Here is another after it was buttoned up.

It is Time:)!

To recap the particulars for this exercise. It was determined that the member(s) who come closest to the bestl HP and/or torque numbers as a result of the dyno pulls would earn the following:

For "Regular" Members, the award would be a paid upgrade ($25.00 value) to VIP status.

For "VIP" Members, it would be a $25.00 credit in the "Cafe."

Also, "Winners" would receive an Icon documenting their "win."

I must admit I was very impressed as to how many of you made estimates that were pretty darn close to what was realized from the "pulls."

Here are the results of the best dyno pull:

1zceagk.jpg

Based on the above:

Best horsepower is 704.1 5900 RPM

Best torque is 731.6 ft lbs at 4500 RPM

So, it appears that "jeff73mach1" came closest to HP with his estimate of 705.

"sm3570" and "Will e" both hit the torque figure with their estimates of 731ft lbs.

My SINCERE congratulations to all three winners and I will be contacting you individually as to making arrangements for your awards.

It should be noted that while the "pulls" started at 4500 RPM, this BBF was making GREAT torque numbers at much lower RPMs. The pulls were also made using 93 octane:)!

BT

That is AWESOME, BT. Great numbers from what looks like a monster. Watching the first video will be a thrill. Can't wait!

But, I am proclaiming that all three of those guys had a copy of the test or answer sheet beforehand! :p

Just kidding - Jeff, Steve, and Will are simply psychic and are able to divine performance numbers based upon drivetrain components and the engine owner's rep points. rofl

Seriously, ::beer:: to you, BT, and to the supersmart horsepower/torque nerds (I swear, I can't help myself. And this is only my first beer!). Good job!

Congrats BT on having awesome numbers and congrats to Steve, Jeff and Will for winning the long awaited results!

Now I need to come up with a new icon for them. Let me know any ideas anyone has for the award icon.

Woohoo! My numbers were based on scientific reasoning...and if you believe that, I have a super rare 1972 sportsroof Mustang for sale, only $80,000! Cheap!

BTW, thank you BT!!
