Brake pad pins

I’m putting front brakes on my 72 and the pins that hold the pads to the caliper seem to short or or just a pain in the butt to get on, any advise? Is there a specific tool?

I use a phillips screwdriver to hold the pins in place while snapping on the clips.

Yes, they are the same length. Not sure if there is a special tool. I watched a video on YouTube and they gentleman snap them on in 2 seconds. They were much longer then the ones I have.

I've not see a special tool for them. I've only needed to use something to hold the back side of the pin, as Hemi said. The distance from the tip of pin to the groove the clip engages is relatively long and requires that little tab to open quite a bit. I'll be installing a set this weekend when I finish up the front end rebuild on mine.

I was not able to get the clips installed until I reshaped the bend to more closely match the original shape. The clips I bought, came from Napa and have a much larger loop. the originals would grab a 3/8" stud, but the new ones would not even come close to that. After reshaping, they went on easy. I used a little ratchet tool that takes the small driver bits to hold the back of the pins in place.
