Hey there,

I'm Toowoomba Qld, and I also drive a 73 Mach 1. These things pull crowds everywhere they go. While the dewds in their early stangs tend to speak poorly of our beasts - the public love them.

I was at a motor show earlier this year, all sorts of classic cars there.

People couldn't believe that my Mustang was so mean.

A 302 is only a 351 with short con rods - easy to give it some more life.

Keep it - 71-73 stangs are so rare over here.

Took some photos after work on my camera.

Was a bit dark so not very good quality.

The air cleaner is off while I was cleaning it.

Will get better ones on the weekend to show in more detail.

I will also take some shots from underneath and get your opinions.

P.S: Thanks for all your support.

Nice to know I will have all the assistance I need if I go ahead with this.

Looks like a keeper! Of course I'm partial to white.

Yep, that's a good looking ride!

It might not be a 'Mach 1'. Officially there were two body codes, one for 'sports roof' and one for 'Mach 1'. It was more typical for a 'Mach 1' to be optioned with the scooped hood and factory guages (but there are always exceptions).

No worries if it isn't. They are difficult to tell apart if you don't check the vin. Lots of people put the Mach 1 stripes on. You will often times see them added to the coupes and convertibles as well. The only time we frown upon it is if someone is trying to sell one as a 'Mach 1' when it isn't.

Great looking car. I can see why the wife has taken a liking to it.

Don't even think about selling !!!

These cars look so good in white...........

G'day and welcome from W.A. I do like the white and black [must be a Collingwood thing on my part] I like the sharp - clean look this colour combo gives these cars, Which blue was the car originally? I have a 72 Mach 1 in bright blue metallic with the argent stripes.. It's a great colour combo to, Have you looked into getting a Marti Report for the car,

Hello again.

Yes then vin number has the 05 indicating a true mach 1.

To Pegasus,

I think the original colour was a light or medium blue from what I could see when I scratched away the under chassis paint.

I love blue and silver also.

If I keep the car and repaint it will be a tough decision whether to keep it white or go back to original.

Also while i am on that subject has anyone had experience with fitting the decals on a 73 mach 1.

As these will have to be replaced if I repaint they look to me like a difficult job to line up all the decals. If they dont all line up perfectly it would destroy the finish.

Any tricks to applying those decals.

Welcome from Sydney.

It is a nice looking car, I say keep it. However do so with eyes open:)

Most trim parts and body panels for these cars you're not going to find in Australia. Most of the front suspension is the same as the local Falcon, but these parts are generally about the same cost or more than getting them shipped from the US from Don or places like CJ's but at least they can be found here. There's a couple places around Australia that have online catalogues for parts, but they usually don't actually have them. Body parts are problematic when shipped from the US even if you have the $$ as crating is very important for it to get here safely especially for exterior parts.

Welcome to the site from coastal Alabama. It's a very nice looking car and the white is a great color. Post any questions you have and we will help find the correct answer.

You know you want to!!

I bought my 73 Mach1 from South Carolina last year, & landed it here in Victoria just before Easter this year.

I have had a few (unexpected) issues preparing it for the road here - but as others have said - there are heaps of places to buy the bits we need. I've dealt with Don of Ohio Mustangs, & CJ Pony parts & have found both to be excellent. Ebay can be your friend too.

Most of the local parts places lean more to 64 1/2 to 70 models , but Griffs of Ballarat are very helpful.

The Mach1 is such a sexy car - it would be a crying shame to sell it...

I'll see you on the road some time!

Looks like we missed your question about the decals. Here is a link to another website that has a lot of detail on applying the decals. If you have more specific questions it's better to start a new thread here with you question and you will probably get more responses.

So have you decided to purchase the car?
