The Navy Base that I work at shut down, as did the local AF Base. All schools are closed. The best forecast: 1-3 inches of rain and 23 knot winds or less. Jimminy Crickets---talk about an over-reaction! I'll be working on harnesses today.
I tried to fire up the generator on Saturday, and it ran for 45 seconds and then sputtered off. I couldn't get it to fire again afterwords. I did notice that when I first allowed fuel to flow, I got some gas running out of the carb onto the ground: not good. Sunday, I disassembled the carb, and cleaned out all of the varnish and reassembled: it fired right up. Diagnosis? Last time I fired it up, I didn't run it dry, so fuel evaporated leaving varnish. When I first allowed fuel to flow, flecks of varnish got caught on the needle/seat, and when I fired it up, the varnish got all into the carb orifices. Lesson learned: either run the generator dry or fire it up once a month.
