Rear seat removal

Hello!

Im going to remove my rear seat this weekend to remove the side panels and then remove the lower window trim.

Im guessing this is pretty straight forward but since ive never done it before and its always good to save time since im always in a hurry i might just as well ask how the procedure is done.

Is it bolted in some way or is it some quick release? Or do i just lift it out?

The rear seat bottom is removed by pushing the front of the seat rearward and lifting up. Each side has a u shaped piece on the seat that catches on a hook protruding from the floorboard.

If it is a fixed rear seat back, it is a similar arrangement- Push up, pull the bottom forward and pull down.

Reinstallation is the reverse. When you see it it will make sense.

If it is a fold down rear seat, after the seat bottom is removed, there are 4 bolts that attach the rear seat, I think they are 1/2" and can be seen on each side. release seat latch and unblot them and the back removes. The rear panel is held down by 4 phillips head screws.

I have tried to get the seat bottom out by pushing and lifting it but it just wont come loose. I almost lost it yesterday  :shootself: :angel:

Sounds like you are doing it right then.  I try to get my meat hooks on the leading edge of the rear seat and throw my body weight into pushing both sides back at once about 6 inches outside the hump.  Of course there is no reason you can't release one side at a time either.

If you are ready to sell the car over it you are probably doing it right.  Let me know if you need my arsenal of fabricated foul language explicatives, or the name of a Louisiana Voodoo Guru to help.

Oh yes, you did encircle the car with chickens feet first, right?

Mine has the 2 screws on the upper seat back too, you cannot remove the screws with the lower seat in as the screws face nearly straight up.

You have to push back and down on both sides of the front of the seat, approximately in the center of where you sit, with some force. Not easy to do with limited room. You might try it at the bottom of the seat frame, harder to get to but more direct and not hampered by the spring action by pushing at the top of the seat.

You still trying to get the back seat out!!!. Try 1/2 stick of dynamite, that should be enough.

Joking aside, they can be a bit*h to get out especially if you're a bigger guy as there ain't much room back there. Once you have done it once, you say to yourself " was it really that easy!!" Oh. getting it back in can be a pain as well. Just thought I'd forewarn you!

Anyway nothing else I can add to the 'instructions' other than getting a back seat out isn't worth loosing it as you said.

I finally got the seat out! And as you said Stanglover, i did say to myself "was it really that easy!" :whistling:

Anyway, the reason i removed the seat was to remove the lower rear window crome trim so i could sand down the paint on the roof (since some retard precious owner drilled holes in it and made his own roof trim out of some metal bands usually used to hold up air ducts). 

But i found a nasty surprise.

Rust, and a little more rust. Plus someone has used quite a lot of lead as well as bondo here, i should have made a before photo as well.
