The rust that's on my newly acquired 71 needs to be stopped in it's tracks until I can create an opportunity to properly repair it. What can I do to prevent any further rusting?

Would spraying the rust areas down with oil, grease or WD40 do any good? If not, what is a good thing to do?

ANYTHING THAT WILL KEEP THE AIR AND MOISTURE OFF OF IT WILL HELP. WHEN I WAS A KID ON THE FARM MY DAD ALWAYS MADE ME SMEER GREASE ON THE CUTTING SURFACE AND THE NEXT SPRING THEY CLEANED UP QUICKLY AND WORKED FINE. SO I GUESS ITS JUST HOW MUCH YOU WANT TO SPEND FOR WHAT YOU USE. BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS IF ITS CLEAR THRU, NOTHING IS GONNA STOP IT
