What shifter setup (shifter and stick combo) are you using? I'm lining up the parts for my AOD to T5 swap.
Thanks Chris. I've been thinking of making my own using a stock 4-speed stick from a 71 Mach 1 cut and welded to the shifter end of a Fox Mustang stick. This would look similar to what @giantpune posted and allow me to position the handle where I want it.I'm happy with the height. If it had a couple inches more curve so the handle landed farther aft it would be perfect and more like the factory Hurst shifter handle on the '70 BOSS.
Thanks CC. I've seen a few of those shifters. They're popular with the 65-66 crowd and seem to work well. I don't think I'd want to sacrifice my console, though. I'll check out the adapters you and Chris mentioned and fabricate one if my hybrid stick doesn't solve that problem.Sheriff, just my 2 cents on a highly subjective topic:
I've used 3 or 4 different shifter handles on my Tremec during 15 years.
1. Steeda tri-ax: nice and low but too far forward for comfortable 2-3 & 4-5 shifts.
2. Aforementioned Hurst 5388022: Just too tall for my personal preference, tall stick height caused long shift "throws".
3. Steeda tri-ax with the aforementioned Lokar adapter: Best positioning compared my previous set-ups but still a bit too far forward on the 2-3 & 4-5 shifts.
I prefer a very low height and back position stick for comfort and short throws so this set-up meet my criteria perfectly. Obviously out of the question for center console cars.
The 5388022 is 12" tall, also. It seems to be the one Hurst stick for the T5 that puts the shifter handle furthest to the rear. Do you like yours?Hurst makes an even larger handle that moves the knob aft. I think it was a 12” but I’d have to check into it.

That isn’t mine, YET. That’s a photo capture from a Youtuber named “Autoedit”. He has a video of him operating that shifter and you can get a sense lf where it will sit. It is the one I’m going to choose once I can get my T-5 installed. The 5388022 is 12" tall, also. It seems to be the one Hurst stick for the T5 that puts the shifter handle furthest to the rear. Sounds interesting droptop; how about a couple photos.I used a Hurst shifter and made my own lever from a hunk of 1/2" thick aluminum. I just cut away everything that didn't look like a shift lever.
