last night i went to the cruse night 300+cars just got finished cleaning my car .sitting there watching people touching my car .why i don't know some people just don't get it DON'T TOUCH THE CARS so a family comes up to take some pics and the father and daughter stand to the side of my car smiling and the kid has her hand on my car. i din't say a thing .but i'm thinking it .then the mother told the sun to stand in front of my car for a pic .he leans on my car and puts both hands on my hood and chrome trim and smiles .i got mad so in a loud voice i said what is wrong with you .you don't lean on peoples cars the family all turned and looked at me and i got a nasty look from them .they walked off then turned back and and i got another dirty look. so was i out of line?

People should always ask if they can take a picture with your car. That's when you say, "Sure, just please don't touch the car." If you already have a placard plainly posted that says, "Look but don't touch!" you shouldn't have to say anything. Some people just don't understand the time and work that goes into prepping a car for a show, and treat them like they're in the WalMart parking lot.

In 1977 about a year after I painted my ’69 Vette it was parked at work and I saw a woman sitting on it. I went out nicely asked to please not sit on my car. “I ain’t hurtin’ it”. I had to debate with her about whether or not she could sit on MY car. I held my temper because it would be too easy for her to do a lot of damage sliding off.

About five years ago a local Dodge dealer invited Viper owners for a Saturday car show/brunch. A friend bought his new Viper. My wife noticed a woman leaning on it. My wife explained to the woman that this car was privately owned and asked her not to lean on it. “I ain’t hurtin’ it”.

+ 1 too what Kurt said only playing Dredd Zepplins Heartbreaker :D

Its your car.... its your feelings therefore ...your decision.

For me, I dont mind people touching my car at all. I do mind however them LEANING on my car. Heck I'll even invite people to sit in them. I lean on mine all the time but I am very careful to check what I'm wearing ... jeans etc.

Now if you're a guy that yells at people touching your car....yet if a hot girl touches or leans on it and you act like its okay.... well you're open season. I dont like anybody leaning on mine no matter if your HOT or NOT.

Nope, you're on the money. A lot of people have no respect for others anymore and they continue to pass that to their kids. Perhaps the kids just learned something their parents can't grasp.

They didn't go to work and earn the money you invested, they didn't pour hours of love an labor into it, they have no investment in it at all, they can't be allowed to take that from you because they are ignorant.

You got it. No respect for your property and your hard work that went into the car.

There are larger societal issues in play here too. But thats for another post on another website.

Hellz no you weren't wrong, nothing bothers me more than people invading my space or leaning on one of my vehicles :p

I probably have more quirks but those two came to mind first, LOL

I actually stopped going to a very large weekly car show (2,000+ vehicles) I've been going to for many years because people will park an inch from your car, bump it, hit it, lean on it, they just don't care. Now I go to a very small weekly get together with a bunch of old timers (like me) and we all sit around and BS and everyone has plenty of space. Some weeks there's only 20 or so, other weeks 50 - 75, but they're all really nice high quality vehicles and great people WHO WILL NOT LEAN ON MY CAR

:D

heck most of the check-book Restoration guys wont even SPEAK to visitors/viewers about their cars much less allow you to lean on them.
This^

Why put time and effort making a show car then act like an arrogant jerk. Drives me crazy at show where I'd like to know about a certain thing yet I get the feeling that just because I don't have a 100k to blow on a car I don't deserve to be next to it much less talk about it.

The worst thing about people leaning on your car is fixing the bullet holes.

...probably gonna put money in the PC jar for that one....
Over penetration, switch to lighter loads and/or hollow points. Problem solved.

Or

Cross your fingers and say, “Step away from the car and you will not be harmed.”

I don´t know. I usually don´t mind anybody touching my car. It´s my car, not my wife.

I usualy even don´t mind anybody leaning on my car, especially if it´s someone I know. Heck, I lean on cars all the time. Driving it on the road for a few miles will harm it more than someone leaning on it, as long as they are not wearing heavy chains to keep their wallets safe.

I even sit on mine when ever I fell like it, though I don´t sit on other people´s cars.

No you were right.

I have had kids drip ice cream on my car - parents didn't care.

Had one show several kids were skateboarding around cars.

Had a guy lean in the window to look at the interior with a cigarette in his mouth.

I had these cards made and send them out with orders.

PM your address and I'll mail them to you if you want one.
