Got the rear axle back together today and under the car - my pile is back on its wheels!! Also a first [since I've owned it, anyway]: both rear wheels have all five (5) lug nuts each! (passenger side had 2 and the driver side had 3 with a snapped off stud)

And of course, I left the camera at the shop. :s

Worked on the fold down seat conversion today. Trying my best to get it before the surgury Tuesday. Frustrating though having to take so many breaks. But I'm going to do what I can tomorrow prepping the sides and roof for the install.

Soooo .... all the times when you were a kid and said

" I can beat you with one hand tied behind my back "

Good luck Mark, I go to the Doc on Wed

OK - got the rear axle done. Got the rear axle brake lines installed (just gotta get a distribution block to finish 'plumbing' the rear brakes), drive shaft installed, shifter connected and 'shifting,' fuel pressure gauge installed on the carb, transmission dipstick installed, and some other 'little things' toward the end of the day. All-in-all, a great weekend.

All rear wheel lugnuts present and accounted for - a "first" for this car since I've owned it!

Here's the new underside picture (with the refurbished rear axle and drive shaft). Still gotta install the driver side shock after I finish plumbing the rear brakes and fuel pump:

The new view from the back - nice to have that nasty ol' rear axle look gone:

And a shot down the 'shaft - there's more room than I thought there would be... good thing the axle doesn't cycle side-to-side though:

One picture than didn't turn out though: the dust boot on the AOD is pretty much smooshed - I don't think it'll last long when this thing starts moving under its own power. I'll get a new pic of that next time, and pose my question regarding drive shaft length and whatnot in another thread.

You have come a long ways my friend. What I like about this thread it seems when one is finished another kinda takes over, so I wonder who will be next.

Thanks, Man! Still gotta long way to go, but it's coming along. It's sad to see all the new goodness under there, then get back out from under the lift and see how bad the rest of it looks. LOL!

I promised myself that I would not make it look nice before making it run well (like I've done with other vehicles in the past). The fact that it was so bad off when I got it made keeping that promise easy. rofl

What I like about this thread is seeing everybody's progress (no matter what stage they're in) - a lot of it gives me inspiration and 'freed advice' for mine... and I think a remember a time or two when I've been able to help someone out as well.

Yep, many times I asked the dumb questions and got the correct answer without being made to feel like it was a dumb question. That why we will continue to grow. Just remember beauty is in the eye of the beer holder:D

Looks like a couple 500 dollar fines in the future! :p
I was thinking the same thing when I saw the pics of the cars in the handicap spaces. Those spaces are meant for handicapped people, not handicapped cars! :D

Buddy, you've helped me out a ton!

My plans were interrupted yesterday when I closed the garage door and one of the braces collapsed for no apparent reason. I fixed it and decided with the rain, I would just chill.

Today I got all the shock cap mounting bolts replaced my damaged shock threads cleaned up with a few passes of a die and my Shelby GT 500 Shock tower brace installed and custom fitted to my car along with MPG shock tower brace kit

Glad it all finally fit together the way you wanted it Jeff. How's that Nasa Hood clearance deal working out? Be sure to keep us posted!

You are a Machine, Mark! Good luck with the surgery - I'm confident in speaking for the whole group when I say, "we're pulling for ya and hope everything goes as well as possible." Keep us posted when ya can!
