Well, not really today but over the last few days, we started with the new exhaust and the shorties. As usual, we found out too late that the shorties that I had did not clear the shock towers, so we had to order new ones from Summit.

At least those fit, although it is impossible to tighten at least two bolts per side. So they will have to come out again and well have to work the tubes with a torch and a hammer to make room for the wrench.

I hate to do that to new parts, especially when they they are thermocoated, but it is necessary, unfortunately.

Plus we fixed the major oil leak by replacing the fuel pump.

Not 71/73 but 70 so read if you want.

Took GF's car to my buddy's and with help from some good friends got the car completely stripped for soda blasting next week. The only really bad/unexpected news we found was the engine is a 75 model 351w. After a little research have decided this will not be the engine going back into the car so now the options are wide open. I'm thinking 351c 2v heads with an Air Gap and some other goodies. She was responsible for pics so.............
I have several [ 10 or so ] 351C - 2V - 4V - 2 bolt - 4 bolt complete motors - blocks -

Can make it a one stop shopping spree on the Christmas run.

What trans was in it ?

Don, MAde the deal for a 351 cj this morning, sorry. But you will still get plenty put of this deal :p

Here's the pics while it was at the body shop. I put the driver's side seat together and back in so I can back it in and out of the garage. Also planning on putting the interior seals back in today. It's the little things.

Made some time today and replaced my spark plugs. I took a drive after and it really made a noticeable difference. Throttle response seemed to be a lot more crisp. I've got to say that it was a real pain in the you know what getting all the plugs out. My last car was a coupe with a 302 and no AC, had plenty of room to get in there and work. Now with the 351 CJ and AC there really isn't much room to get in there and work.

Over the weekend my buddy Frank finished the new exhaust. It's basically a 2,1/4 inch stock one for the 351C but as I have a Windsor in it, it had to be adapted.

The headers are shorties from Hedman that are designed for use in 71-73s with an swapped 351W.

Thanks to the guys who pointed me to them in my thread!

The h-pipe ist the stock replacement one that had to undergo major surgery to make it fit with the headers.

The mufflers are Edelbrock RPMs that we took from the old exhaust, as I wanted to keep them. They provide maximum flow and sound great.

Although it went from long tube to shorty headers it is much louder than it used to be. The old one was 2 inch diameter, it's funny how much of a difference a 1/4 inch makes. (I am still talking exhaust here, guys! ;) )

We dropped the Mach1 exhaust tips that the car used to have for simple 20 degree turn downs.

I never liked the look of the tips as the rear valance has no cutouts. Plus this allowed us to keep the tailpipes higher, which is good, given the amount of lowering the car has undergone.

I love how it looks like it just came from the factory, unlike the straight tubes that used to run under the floorpans.

Ground clearance is also restored, no part of the exhaust is lower than the transmission.

By the way we also changed the healights to relays. Much better!

And here are the usual pics to show that it happened. :)

Looks good Mike, I can't really tell but is the exhaust stainless?
