my daily driver was getting smogged and my family didn't have another car I could drive other than the 72, so I figured I might as well give it a run.

Took it to my favorite local hangout for lunch and a few other errands. And got a bit more gas in the car since it was about on the 1/2 mark when I first got in and on/behind the 1/4 mark by the time I got to the last stop and not knowing how reliable the gas gauge is (especially given the jump it made, lol)

but either way it was fine, car ran great and just another day in southern california I guess, lol

I re-wired the starter per instructions from kind souls on this wonderful site... it works as intended now! I also did some carb rework, since I fixed the vacuum leak it was running very rich on the idle/transition circuit. I restricted the idle fuel by an additional .004", it helped clean it up. Another metering block had to be modified after an allen wrench broke off in one of the idle restrictors. :(

Your reward will probably be a few of my paychecks pretty soon. The new rims/tires a waiting until we finish the front end, however their sitting in my garage.

Just a couple of pics after we settled her in. This is before we took off the hood and front fenders so as not to scratch them. I have them wrapped in blankets and said something to my wife about using the hood as a headboard. Anyone want to guess how that went over. Of course I could not stop myself from saying "it is the safest place in the house, nothing exciting ever happens.... never mind...."

Congrats on the new paint. Good to see you got it back home.

It was a perfect day to have the 72 out.

I replaced the 17" Craiger knock offs that came with the car for some original 1973 slotted mag wheels.

I spent a little over 2 hours on each wheel, polishing them. Next step is to replace the dust covers and then attach the new wheel caps I got from Don.

Anyone looking for 17" chrome Craiger knock-offs? :) New 235x45R17's... lest than 500 miles on them ;)

What did I do today? Oh nothing special... just fired it up for the first time in 33 years! :D:D:D

[video=youtube]

Also, talked to Mark (marks73 - since auron73mach1 had his number on his phone) to share the joy (nice talkin' with Mark, BTW).

This is my first YouTube video posted ever, so bear with me. Sorry about all the wind noise from the fan early on - I had no idea how my junky old HP 2.3MP camera would even work at taking videos - first time for that, too.

Also ran out and picked up the two parts cars that auron73mach1 scored - after snagging the things we need, I see some general and "unobtanium" parts coming available soon - lots of good stuff on both cars to harvest.

Eric, is that a fresh rebuild with a flat tappet cam?
Yes and no - Fresh rebuild with roller everything. I don't know if you've seen the 'before' pictures of the engine (everything's in the FB photo album link in my signature below), but it's the original engine with #4 & #8 seized when I first got it. Specs are on my "garage" page.

Now to put a timing light to it and get 'er dialed in.

Roller, okay. Just wanted to make sure you went into cam break in after firing it there if it was flat tappet.

Probably will still want to do a little bit of "break in" and then change the oil and filter before you start putting your first driving miles on it, but you got it handled. ;)

Wow, you're more of a man than I am. Are you ok? :)
+ 1 :)
She just rolled her eyes and said, "and comments like that will guarantee its safety". Lol. I have a wonderful wife who for the most part can roll with the punches.
