Took of the doors and trunk lid for a little clean up. The surface rust cleaned up very nicely and was greeted with some very nice metal with no serious issues. A couple of before and after pics.

Took the mach to a car show today, and to be honest it was pretty lame.

There was a small turnout (30 cars max), the DJ they hired was blasting music right at us the whole time really loud (to the point the organizers got complaints all day) and changed from hard rock/heavy metal to club/techno towards the end, and the organization/timing of the raffle they had really was mishandled where they really could have done everyone a favor and done it all an hour earlier than they did.....but rather they just kept everyone prisoner more or less waiting for them.

At the end they had a bit of a snafu over a "best audio" award since nobody had acutally played anything on their stereos all day

(and even if they had the DJ probably would have drowned them out)

So on the whole it felt like a waste of most of the day. And it's sad cause I went to a car show at the same place last year (but put on by a different organization I think) and it was pretty good.....this sucked cause I had a few other options of things to do today that would have been so much more worth the time.....really the only thing I actually liked about the show was this.....

Had a good day with the Mach1. I finished sanding the trunk, wheelhouse, inner quarters and welded up the lower quarter patches. Hope to put down some primer tomorrow.
::goodjob::

Looks like you conquered the trunk paint. I was doing the same thing the other night on the pass side inner wheelhouse so I could eliminate the spare tire notch. It's a beautiful morning here so you should have great weather for priming today. Keep at it!

OK, Doc - no procrastination here. After getting the oil and tranny fluid dumped in, I pulled the thermostat housing and started filling the block... and after watching 50/50 coolant pissing out from between the water pump and timing chain cover, I'm pulling the front of the engine off again to reseal the pump and cover.

Who knew that when I built the damn thing 18 months ago that it was just waiting to leak on me when I was ready to fire it up? :-/

Next weekend then. :shy:

At least it leaked on you at home and not 200 miles down the road.

Replaced battery, dizzy cap and rotor.

Did the starter a couple days ago and

it appears a bad starter also killed the

battery over time. Is that possible, battery

is only three years old. Or, I could blame

both, they can't handle the rebuilt quench

Cleveland (D0AE) for any length of time :dodgy:

The starter was about five years old.

The wire in the distributor cap for number five

cylinder was badly corroded, the green/blue powder.

Only one that was, what would cause that?

Well, I won't be so sure that still couldn't happen... all things considered.

OK, so I determined the reason for the leak was because the timing cover was corroded (pitted) from the old water pump not having a backing plate (Ford apparently used the front face of the timing cover as the backing plate for the water pump). Fine. Also determined that because of the uneven surfaces, the paper gasket was not equipped to fill in all the surface defects, so I decided to just Permatex the livin' sh!t out of the mating surfaces of the water pump and reinstalled it - so far, so good... no more leaks and finished filling up the block.

The oil pan plug was dripping fresh 10W30 as well... apparently, the dumb-@ss that built the engine elected to not crank it down tight enough to hold oil. Easy fix... but now I gotta wonder what Hell else can go wrong.

Put 5 gallons of premium in the tank, and lit up the fuel pump with my cool new 'keyed power' fuse box. 2 seconds later, the fuel filter filled up - at least THAT works, right? Except that the 5/16" small hardline (re-used from the factory mechanical pump to the carb) sprayed gas all over the driver side fender apron. Apparently, using 3/8" hose (because the fuel pressure switch inlet is 3/8") to join up to the 5/16" hardline creates this odd propensity to not seal and blow fuel everywhere no matter how hard you crank down the hose clamp. Imagine that.

That's it - the towel has been thrown for the day.

My goal this week is to score another 8' of 3/8" fuel line to eliminate the 5/16" hard line altogether and try again next weekend. Oh yeah, and reinstall the alternator, power steering pump, water pump pulley, fan, fan belts, fan shroud, and pour the rest of the coolant into the radiator along with power steering fluid into the PS pump.

So maybe... MAYBE... next weekend we'll have it running.

Keep at it, Eric! You are exactly where I was exactly 1 year ago. I promise you, you won't go insane and you'll be grinning ear to ear soon!!

Oh, I hope you've already installed the oil dipstick tube, because it's a PITA to do it after installing the water pump and heater hoses. Holding the alternator in one hand while lining up the long alt. bolt through the alternator mount, alternator, long extension piece, dipstick tube mounting bracket and into the block with the other hand brings back memories of joy I'll not soon forget! :p

Remember to keep that camera and video handy. You're almost there.

Got some work done on the mach1 today. Getting ready to get the 408 dropped in, so I figured I better try to get that driver door opened that broke last fall. Tore out the passenger and driver seat, also the center console. All that just to get to the door panel. And still cant the door open!! A buddy of mine is coming over tomorrow to give me a hand with the door. Also got to do a little touch up of the paint on the engine compartment. Just cleaning up some. Also got the subframe connectors on. They are welded into place but still need finish ground, seam sealed, and painted. But overall a good day with the hotrod!!!

Sprayed some primer today. Then watched it dry.
I hope you enjoyed a cold beverage while you watched the primer dry. Looking good!

Refinished the rear bumper brackets, installed the bumper guard pads, bumper and rear valance panel. Now it's Miller Time!

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Doc! This is but one of the things that makes this the best Mustang site [and group] out there. I don't care which site you go to, there isn't a more close-knit group with as much readily-shared 'real' information and experience than ours.

I think the reasoning behind my quick frustration was because summer has decided to come back, and we've been in triple-digits the past few days along with the 'normal' 50%+ humidity that usually burns off above 90 or so. It was absolutely miserable in the shop, despite the shade and breeze.

And yes - I already have the oil dipstick tube installed. Oddly enough, when you mentioned the fun you had with yours way back when, I immediately checked mine and had already done it.

Wow! That's damn nice... Awesome job! ::thumb::

After really taxing the shoulder last week I've been doing my best to just putter. Got the DS door sanded some, got a few more lights straitened out. Played with the cat. Nothing special.

Bought a set of really nice used rubber for my 14x7 wheels. Will have them mounted and balanced tomorrow and install them. For the first time in god knows how long my car will have matching tires and wheels, oh and I'll be able to drive it longer distances without fear of the dry rotted tires blowing out on me. I can literally see the air in them from the outside.

I have it painted now and ....oops, what I meant to say is I need to finish the "bodywork".

Finally had enough time to take some pics of my Mustang with my other toys. I guess you can see that I'm not really brand loyal! I just like what I like, but i do like them low.

Got a call yesterday from the body shop saying my car was finished. They need to tweak a few things, but overall it looks good. They are delivering it today so we can begin reassembly/ install engine.

Excitement is keeping me up.
