Well I looked at it up on jack stands while I wait for delivery of the last new Felpro 2902 rear main seal on the planet to arrive at my house and for my new clutch to show up. It looked so sad with the hood up on the roof and the battery cables just dangling, that I had to console it. I went to the parts bin and pulled out the new front springs isolators and perches and changed the spring on the passenger side. It was 90+ degrees and it took me nearly 2 hours. I gave her a pat on the rump and promised to do the driver side tomorrow.

I swear my Harley hissed at me!

My car is in the body shop getting re-painted, and I stripped the body of external goodies before it went there. So, every evening since, I clean up something, polish something, etc, getting the pieces ready to be put back on.

As I was cleaning up the taillights, I took the lenses off of the white plastic buckets to clean them, and discovered that the rounded "reflectors" behind the bulbs are just white plastic, so I masked the rest of the plastic backing piece off, and sprayed the reflector bowls with a chrome aerosol paint to give it a more mirror-like reflectiveness. We'll see. My hopes are that I will have much brighter tail lights without going to led's. I don't have any "before photos of the lights, but if this makes a noticeable difference, I'll post up the low dollar tail light brightness fix.
Spike, your best bet for such a job is flat (matte) white. It will make the lights brighter but not cause any reflections

I tried different things like bright (shiny) white or chrome but the flat white gave the best results in comparison.

Put the tranny in today after its first rebuild of its entire life!!

Let me tell you something... Those long tube headers are a pain in the butt to work around. I cannot think of a time they WERENT in the way. Just getting the transmission lined up and in was such a hassle. Never mind all of the transmission lines and things. If and when I get new headers, they will not be long tubes.

I have to go to work so I cant take it for a ride but I was able to go in all gears with no problems and back the car out of the driveway. All a good sign. No leaking so far. Cant wait for my day off tomorrow!

The car is as filthy as it has ever been.. it will have to get TWO washed tomorrow before its first ride back. Wish me luck!

Good job I am sure that makes you feel great. That is the only part of a car I have never tackled is auto trans.

Just changed out the obnoxiously loud MSD fuel pump to a Walbro unit. Thought there was something wrong because the pump didn't come on then realized the Walbro is so quiet that is was running and we just didn't hear it. What a difference!

i will be in the transmission swap club soon as well.

my trans pan came, and my transmission jack.

now i need to jack up the car, remove the exhaust and all the other stuff and get the old trans out and change it.

Yup. Mine is sitting on Jack stands waiting on a clutch and rear main seal so I can put it back together. Very ready to get it down and go for a drive, but I will be building a new exhaust while it is apart. I keep finding little things to do in the meantime. Maybe I'll empty out my pending projects parts bin soon . . . . nah :D

I have been waiting for an insulation sound deadening blanket for the cowl for 2 weeks and now they tell me they cannot get it. It was on ebay for sell and they don't have it. If it doesn't come soon I will have the car torn apart. Took everything off the front of the engine was missing one of the alternator brackets and got everything blasted and painted and hope to put the front of engine back on tomorrow. This was just a clean up and go and it has been 6 weeks getting crazy.

A clear distributor cap, that's different. Sounding good.
Sure makes lining up for the #1 cylinder easy. Thanks, does sound good. I've had that motor just waiting for a car to put it in for over 20 years. Pulled the 2v from '72 Torino that I believe had just over 40K miles on it. Way back when, I had it in a '84 short-box F-100 for a little while after putting in new rings, bearings, valve job, etc. Hadn't been run for over 20 years and I had put roller rockers, aluminum manifold, Edelbrock carburetor and that H.E.I on it while it sat. A little gas and she fired right up! Love Clevelands!

Still no insulation blanket for the cowl. I did get the font of the engine all painted and put back on. I put a free set of valve covers on that came with another car he just threw them in. Now I am going to relocate the MSD ignition box over close to the solenoid and clean up the po wiring.

While taking the hoses off the air conditioner pump and condenser. All the connections are like full of dry powder stuff & corrosion. Is this normal? I was going to put the R134 O-rings in so I can get the system vacuumed and charged after I get the heater box in.

I am going to try some new stuff called Dura cool they claim to be better than the R134.

Going to be over 100 here tomorrow with the heat index crazy hot this early. Some B4 and after pics. Not making a show car just a driver for sunny days and having fun.

Today......I stopped by the body shop to view the progress on my Mach 1. The body shop owner was so ecstatic for me that there was absolutely no rust anywhere on my car. The whole car is in primer, only had a small dent outward on the rear quarter where something in the trunk must have scooted over and hit the side at one time . I can hardly wait for the color to go on. It is going to be it's original Medium Yellow Gold again, but perfect. "Mary Death" rides again!

Note, how the car is in a full broadslide, and pretty flat. Mary runs 1 1/8" body roll bar in front, 1" in rear. I keep telling Mary not to sit on the door, but she has a gun, so........

It's hard to see here, but the applique' on the trunk that says "Mach 1" was altered for the movie to read "Mary 1". A new Mach 1 decal is going back on, and I'll probably delete the side stripes, I do like 'em, but that's not how the car was prior to filming.

That's awesome, Spike! The stripes are cool, but after learning the conditions for stripes vs. no stripes Mach 1 packages, they just look out of place to me with the bright trim separating the two-tone colors.

Mine was originally a "no stripe" car, and since I was missing the pieces on both front fenders, I opted to remove them altogether - I had also planned on adding the hockey stripes. Now, I'm not so sure I want the hockey stripes at all... so, it remains "naked." LOL

Can't wait to see it back together. Grab some progress pics if you think about it. ::thumb::

put in a new Interstate MTP 24F. Got it free under warranty. Last one was 24mos old. Started right up. Added some distilled water to top it off.just need to find a place to wash it!

Here's a couple of shots of my Mach 1 in the body shop. These were taken a few weeks ago. Perhaps there's paint on it by now, i'll find out this week.

New replacement RT front fender, used original hood being fitted prior to bodywork and paint.

Spike - I had no idea that the Mary Death car was one and the same with yours. Very special!

You might want to head over to the IMCDB and note your ownership of the car:

Thanks cudak888, I just did. To clarify, my car was straight, didn't need bodywork before, however, after bending my hood and right front fender, I realized just painting to match the rest of the car wouldn't make me happy, so I elected to do a total re-paint, same as it was, but now I get to detail it a bit better than it was. I never really realized how much I liked the car until this being-without- it period of time.

P.S., I just realized your bottom of screen photo has "Eleanor's" 614 HSO plate....cool.

No sense in doing a halfway job when it won't please you. Great to hear that you're going all the way.

The 614 HSO plate is a Photoshop (though I've been bugging one of the plate manufactures on eBay to produce a few) - and, for better or worse, I sold that yellow '72 to make room for the '68 Satellite. I do hope to build a proper Eleanor someday, but I haven't the slightest idea where I'm going to put it.
