What did you do to your car today?

Today I'm off early and sitting in the garage starring at my Mach 1. Just installed a chin spoiler and loving the way she looks with it! I think I'll call her She-Hulk.

You're putting standard 1970 upholstery on 71-73 seats?

Yep, They seem to fit quite nicely though... I bougt them as 71-73 upholstery, but you can`t always win...:shrug2:

Eric,

The screws are stainless

If you try and weld a nut to them you will melt the bumper

The easiest way is to take a torch and QUICKLY blow off the steel J nuts on the back side

Put a wet rag on the bumper and bolt face

The steel J nut will melt faster than the stainless - as soon as it melts hit the screw out before it can heat up the urathane - used the rag or water to cool that area

Then move onto the next one

I was talking with my pal Jim yesterday, and I think I'm going to try an air chisel on the J nut first. If I get no joy, I'll give the torch a try (I know I don't trust myself not to melt the urethane, so I'll save it as a last resort).

It's the ultimate feel good movie and something every boy can relate to and is safe for kids to watch. Definately need to watch with the grandkids.

I took the 4 speed Mach 1 out of the barn today, cleaned it up a little and took it out for a fresh tank of gas. Went on a nice little ride this evening. The 4 speed is fun car to drive and gets plenty of comments. This is the dash board. My wife says it has a lot of "gadgets" and that I am a gadget kind of guy. She is correct! I like lots of gauges, lights, switches, etc. This car is low mileage but it needs a few things to be a great driver. I plan on getting those things done when I retire. I will take good care of it until then.

Primed the outer aprons today and cleaned up the garage. Will be putting the Mach 1 on hold for while well get ready to take the wife camping on Pismo Beach for a week.

I did the same thing I do everyday: walk past it in the garage on my way out and smile to myself a little knowing that anyone could have bought a used one of these cars in decent shape for as little as $500-$1000 when they were just "used" cars and didn't. They didn't think they were "worth anything".

I paid $5500 for mine brand new, and I used to get angry just a few years later when people would say "your'e still driving that old gas-guzzler? Dump that thing for the first $800 you can and get a better car. You know, something like a Pinto or a Vega. They get much better gas mileage."

My parents told me to get rid of that car a million times. My first wife constantly pleaded with me to sell it, saying it was embarrasing to be seen riding an old, teenagers car. ( I eventually got rid of her instead).

My current wife didn't quite get the strange and goofy attachement I have for this car when we first were dating, but she has come around. She gets it now.

All 6 of my kids came home from the hospital in that car.

That car is one of the only things in my life that has never let me down, never left me stranded, never even had a flat!

I, however did let ITdown a few times though ( eight BAD wrecks over the years).

How could I turn my back and get rid of old friend like that?

Good post. Pretty much echoes my story. People not 'getting it', for sure. All except for the wrecks and the stranded part. But that was my fault.

Catastrophy stuck and my accelerator cable let go.

Just my luck, mine snapped 4 blocks from home, I got lucky and idled, up hill to the house nexted door before the car stalled. So with my trusty screw driver I raised the idle up and lugged it home and into the garage, phew.
