Wrong direction.  Left from Ohio and headed to Yellowstone.

Finally on the road headed to Yellowstone.   Was going to go last year but didn't due to the pandemic.  Left Friday morning and am out there somewhere.  Lets see if anyone can tell where our first stop was at for the weekend.  Here are a couple of pictures from the area we stayed at.

You have to get off the Exway to see it.  It's in the mid-west.

We made it home yesterday after being on the road for the past 3 weeks and over 4000 miles.   As I stated when I started this trip our destination was Yellowstone. 

Before I list the places in the picture’s I would like to say that this has been by far one of the best vacations we have taken.   I have been out west once before about 50 years ago and I had forgotten just how beautiful that part of our country is.   I'm glad we got to see so many wonderful things.

First stop – Dubuque Iowa - Stayed 3 nights

National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium



Felon Place Elevator Company



Also went to the Field of Dream movie site and visited the Crystal Lake Cave

Second stop – Sioux Falls, South Dakota - Stayed 2 nights

Falls Park





Also visited the USS South Dakota Battleship Memorial

Third Stop – Rapid City, South Dakota - Stayed 6 nights

Custer State Park





The Bad Lands



Delta 09 Minuteman Missile site



Also visited Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, a Prairie Homestead, Fort Hays – part of the movie set for Dances with Wolves, 1880 Train & Depot - took train ride, and the Big Thunder gold mine.  Also visited several other local attractions and had a severe thunderstorm with hail.

Fourth Stop – Cody Wyoming - Yellowstone Stayed 5 nights

Midway Geyser Basin



Visited the main attractions of the park.  Left out the North East entrance to return to Cody and took one of the most beautiful scenic routes back.    Also visited Buffalo Bill State Park and Dam.

PLUS GOT A SURPRISE BONUS IN CODY!











Unfortunately there wasn't any 71-73's there.

Cheyenne Wyoming- Stayed 2 nights - visited the Frontier Days Museum along with a couple of other local attractions.

We really had a great trip but as always it's good to be back home.

I knew the Badlands and been to Cody several times for the Winchester museum. I did not see the Corn palace in Mitchel SD.

That's right - sitting in my living room. With the %&$^& price of diesel I can't afford to take my fifth wheel camper very far. We were supposed to go to Gettysburg, Pa. and Cape Cod, Ma. for vacation this year but have canceled. I'm out $305 in nonrefundable reservations but compared to what the cost of fuel would be to go I'll take the lost. Looks like there is no end in sight. Right now in Southern Ohio diesel is going from $5.35 to $5.49 a gallon. I saw that Massachusetts is at $6.25 per gallon in some areas. And these high fuel prices just drive up the cost of goods by being passed onto the consumer. It's a no win situation. Something has to give soon.

You would have liked Gettysburg, especially if you like American history. Unfortunately, I don't see a way for anything to "give" any time soon. We need to start making voting decisions based on our own best interests. Chuck

We're all mad about the cost of fuel. But look at it this way, they (politicians) see it as their opportunity to move to electric vehicles. Choke us with high fuel prices. But because they (politicians again), fail to realize that the grid can't support the amount of EV's required for most U.S. households. The cost of disposing a discharged EV battery (environment effects). The labor used to mine the elements for the EV battery. I can fill the fuel tank in minutes, charging an EV takes hours. I could go on and on. I don't want to get political on this forum, but it's related in a way since politicians (again) want to phase out the internal combustion engine. Maybe like the movie demolition man...........

We were really looking forward to going there and to Cape Cod. A lot of history at both locations and the surrounding areas. We will try again next year if fuel prices drop, and our health is still good. Would definitely like to get there before we get too old and can't make it.
