Here's the setup I use for my fuel inlet into my carb. Its a hard metal preformed line, and the compression fitting that fits that line and gives something like a 6an thread so you can screw on different things. I use a little hand held pipe cutter to cut the steel line. But it sounds like you've already taken care of that.Do you have a link to an example of that compression fitting ?
And pro-tip, the copper ring is single use. If you tighten the thing in the wrong spot, the copper ring is stuck there and you have to cut it off. I was able to find a little pack of the copper rings at the local oreileys auto store for a couple bucks. You can use those with the rest of the fitting to try again.

Here's the counterpart to my 5/16 one. If all you did was cut a line, I supposed you could use the 2 of these to get it back together. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/vpe-16455
