Man I just had to keep reading, because after the first line I had a visual of where this was going and it was not pretty
I should have seen this one coming. Two automotive words that shouldn't be shortened are speedometer and transmission.

Can you imagine if Roy's internet provider was fishing for information on his surfing habits......

OK... back to our regularly scheduled programming!

We went to the shop again tonight and I worked some more on the z-bar brackets. I welded the frame side bracket and that one is complete. I roughed the bellhousing bracket out and welded the parts together. I'll get photos soon... too late tonight. Next up is to start the z-barand linkage. I'm making everything adjustable so I can get the right feel and release.

More to come same bat time... same bat channel!

Hi Jeff, awesome swap and thread! I’m excited to see the end result but also stoked to learn that the 3.8 bell housing will fit a 351 and see all the info on the 8.8 swap. . . . . I LOVE THIS SITE!!!!

Hmmm I have checked my front porch daily but nothing there except the fancy outdoor plants:dodgy:

Well guys I've had some time in the garage to work on the conversion I'll take some pics and post up more details later today. The parts are going in for the last time. I pulled the cover off the trans and was very pleased with what I found.

More to come!

The trans is installed for the final time and I have clutch linkage that works! :D The steering column is back in. All the work is coming to an end.

When I pulled the cover off the T-5 a pleasant surprise awaited me. There are a couple of new gears, new synchros and sliders. I am very happy with what is there.

Here are some pictures!

Well it's been a long time since the last update. There have been a couple of snags in getting the car going. First is finding the correct starter. The pocket in the V-6 bell housing is offset for a gear reduction starter. The starter that matches the bellhousing has a gear that will work well for an automatic or later model flywheel where the ring gear is on the clutch side of the flywheel. The ring gear on a '73 flywheel is on the engine side which causes the starter gear to be in constant mesh, not good for the starter. An old style bendix starter will not fit the bellhousing. The answer is a specialty gear reduction starter for the early manual transmission. I'll find out this weekend how it works. Second is the driveshaft. I sold the C-6 driveshaft to a member who needed it since it was too short anyway. The driveshaft needs to be 49" with my combination. I picked up a Fox body driveshaft from a local car club member (freebie, my favorite price). The issue is the fox shavt uses a 1330 u-joint and the rear yoke uses a 1310 joint. Heres the rub the 9" also uses 1-1/8" diameter caps instead of conventional 1-1/16" caps. I found a u-joint kit by Ford racing @ Summit which is a 1310/1330 combination joint with extra 1-1/8" caps. So all that stands between me and shifting my own gears is installing the starter, bypassing the wiring connector for the neutral safety switch, bypassing the seat belt warning connection to the NSS and having the d-shaft lengthened (install new tube). It's close!!! I hope to have the car running this weekend and hopefully the d-shaft built and installed next week (3-5 days for the shop). I hope to get a video of the first drive.

I REMEMBER this exact same thing in the excitement category about this time of the year in 2009. keep up the good work.

I found out another peice of information I'd have liked to known earlier. When using the V-6 bellhousing and block plate the diameter of the starter hole is smaller than an older V-8 starter. So... I spent about an hour under the car with a die grinder and a flap wheel opening up the starter hole so my new gear reduction starter would go in. That would be SO much easier with the plate out on the bench! It finally fit and was bolted in place.

Thanks to Midlife for the help in bypassing the neutral safety switch. I got it running! Now the only missing link is the driveshaft I'll have my son drop that off Monday to get the new longer tube installed. I'm hoping to have it on the road by next weekend.

HEY... it moves on it's own. The driveshaft was finished today and I picked it up on my lunch break. I slid it into place when I got home from work. I got the car back down on the floor and fired it up. EVERYTHING worked perfectly, I took it around the block and a little further. I'll have to get the video in a couple of days. The starter gear seems like it's too close into the flywheel so i'll have to work on that tomorrow night. Well that completes the swap, it was well worth the effort it's like a whole new animal the car moves so much better. I'll have to work up the parts list and prices. I'll post full scale templates for the brackets and equalizer bar arms too.

So those of you with T5/tremec 5 speeds, what are you using for shifters? I have a Tri-ax connected to a custom peice af aluminum and it doesn't fit the console very well. I also have a pretty big hurst shift boot to cover it.
