The coil is 0.8 ohms. No idea on the hours, but I have had it this way for the last 7 years without issue. Granted, I certainly don't daily drive the car, but it gets it's share of miles during the summer. It's pretty easy to lay on your back, unplug the tach, and simply bridge the plug with a wire if you are worried about your tach failing and getting stranded on the side of the road. You could do the same with a jumper wire from the coil to the battery or starter relay to get you back home.I've heard this can reduce the life of the OEM tach? Do you know the resistance of the coil you're running? Any idea how many hours your tack has run with this setup?
Thanks for the info.
I don't believe bypassing the resistor wire has any negative impact on the tach at all. The tach is just a glorified ammeter. You can read my thoughts about it here, with an assist from midlife.
