Ford racing 351 boss 427 stroker

Hi!

I have been offered a Ford Racing 351 Boss 427 stroker engine with 2 years swedish warranty for a really good price . Anyone who has tried this engine http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=11831 ?

A swedish firm has just become "sales agents (?)" for Ford Racing Parts and i think the price is good so i really would like to try this

I have not used the specific engine you refer to. However, I've used Ford Racing block and Scat cranks and rods, never any problems with either. If it is new and it meets your needs and the price is good I'd say but it. Chuck

This motor based on the 351W design?

It is obviously a killer motor but... If so I sure wished they had not named it Boss 351.

Boss 351 = 351 Cleveland to me.

Dunno about that particular engine, but I got a Ford Racing 351W crate engine in mine. Never had any problem with it. Came with the Duraspark ignition, fires up after months of hibernation on first attempt, idles smoothly and has plenty of torque.

That might not answer your question but for what it´s worth, it is some first hand experience with a Ford Racing crate engine.

I see your point Roy! From what im read i guess the "351 boss" blo ck is some sort of hybride between cleveland and winsor (?) . Still the block looks really solid and all sorts of imrovements are made for durability and long time performance (oppp im sounding like a salesrep from ford... well im not but im more that a little temted to get this one!)

The more i learn from all u 71-73 guys the better decision i take :angel:

It is my understanding that the "New" Boss 351 block is NOT apparently based on the 351W design, although it is compatible with the 302 and 351W blocks. Here is a link that gives quite a bit of the details.

Yup..I agree...Looks like a monster motor...But to state this "Ford Racing's new BOSS 351 block" New? They using a out of date W design..thats been stroked and poked and with higher grade metal.....How does that make it a new block? lol..Dont they mean a 50 plus year old block thats been pumped up a bit? hehe I bet that wouldnt sound as good now would it? I guess the truth doesnt always sound as good..hehe

Other than that...It looks like a killer block...they reworked the old water jackets too a bit...But it boggles my mind..Why not just make a new one ford? No engineers left over there? ...I found this a big odd 580/.602-inch lift and 232/240 degrees duration (at .050-inch lift). Does anyone know if there are headers that fits on the Ford Z heads AND fits in my -73 Mach1?

Or do i need to costummake headers?

Would love coated ones...
