Hey folks, 1972 Mach 1 barn find here.

Hey guys, I just purchased a 1972 Mach 1 barn find. It hasn’t been started since “92” I just fired it up last week after spraying the pistons in BB and letting it sit for a week. Had the original carburetor rebuilt, new battery, hand turned the motor and changed oil. I ran I gas line from a gas can to the pump and after messing with it a few minutes…… she hit and ran smooth as a kitten. I’m glad to be here as I have a lot of questions. I’m a Mopar guy so ford is a little out of my wheel house.

Change that oil and add zinc or use a zinc rich oil before you wipe that cam!

Congrats! So you're probably pretty certain after all that time the gas tank and fuel lines will need to be cleaned out or replaced. I came from the Pontiac camp originally. Always liked the '71 - '73 Mustang body style from a young age. Also wouldn't mind a late 1960's Road Runner or GTX someday! Prices are beyond outrageous however, especially in the past few years. So it's more like hold on to what you have now ('71 Mach 1 429).

Congratulations from Connecticut Gary, sounds like you’ve been watching Vice Grip Garage. Daryl does his long term storage start ups that way all the time , great show ! Is favorite flavor of dinosaur juice is Rotella diesel oil.

Absolutely, I’ve already dropped the tank and pulled out half the fuel lines. The carb was just rebuilt last week since it’s an all numbers matching car I want to keep it as original as possible. But the two things I need right now is for it to move and stop. It runs, I hit the brake and as expected my foot went to the floor with no pressure.

This way I can move it around while doing some of the work. The engine itself runs like a kitten and I’ve only changed the oil and antifreeze. Believe it or not, the radiator was still full the day I checked it.

So, 30% of the battle is ok for now…
