I am wanting to repair my racing mirrors on my 1972 hardtop rather purchase reproductions the base of the stem is cracked on the LH side and it appears that there is a mounting base which is absent on the RH side. So 2 questions 1. How to repair the base for the stem? and 2. What is the part for the RH?I don't believe it is the gasket but rather a bracket of some sort. Sadly repro mirrors and gaskets are all that appear to be available. Any suggestions?

I would check with Don at Ohio Mustang Supply. Send him a PM at OMS. He can probably get you good used original Ford mirrors.

Do you have a TIG? They are cast in a dense alloy of tin, aluminum, magnesium, cadmium, and zinc (pot metal) which make for a low melting point metal so, low heat is a must and will turn to a liquid extremely fast. If you can TIG aluminum you can do this. You may want to flux, and solder the crack with super alloy 1 rod, but, either way it's not the easiest metal to weld.

My buddy owns a hot rod/resto shop in Cheyenne Wyoming just down the way and he has all the gear. I may ask him on this one. It ain't the end of the world if I have to get a new set of repro racing mirrors but I would rather not. Appreciate the info.
