I found these while surfing the net one day..... I think they were high school year book ads.

December 24, 1980, the day I got my Mach-1.

I don't even want to do the math on how long ago that was...:s

Here's a couple pictures of my red 73 mach. These were taken in 1985 when I first bought it from my uncle. Sorry for the poor quality pictures. It had SS Cragars, L60 tires, yellow Lakewood traction bars air shocks and an Alpine stereo with Pioneer speakers. All the necessities for the time. My Dads 1965 Ford f100 pickup is in the background.

A couple of my 1972 HO circa 1978. I won my class that day at Tri-State Drag strip in Ohio. Chuck

Here are a few photos from the Ford 1973 stockholders report. The front cover and a note from Lee and Henry II about the 1973 Ford line up. Plus the 1973 mustang.

Very nice car Chuck. (only 6-7 years old in those pics!) Any ideas where that car is today?

Ray
Yeah, it has been recycled 3 or 4 times by now. The guy I sold it to totaled it a month after I sold it to him.

Clever!

Here are some more old ads / brochure pics. Ford seemed to be marketing the Mustang as some kind of sophisticated lifestyle car. Why I have no idea as it looked like a muscle car. Maybe they'd noticed tastes had changed after they'd designed it.

Ain't it funny how most of the featured Mach1s are non-striped cars?

Looks like Ford preferred that over the other, as even the DAF car had no stripes.

Just thought of something. Even in the 1971 sales brochure the featured Mach1 did not have stripes but of course the Boss 351 had them.

Soooo, could it be that Ford wanted to set off the Boss more by advertising a visually toned down Mach1?

Correct. I'm surprised Kit hasn't jumped in on this one yet... :)

The stripes were originally for the limited production Boss 351.

I'm not sure exactly when Ford began offering them on the 71 Mach 1's. Interesting to research...

Probably better to start a new thread and not hijack this one...
