Scott - my wife wishes my garage looked that clean!

Steve, why was the WWB .45 out next to the 10 hour project?
Haha! I emptied that box a while ago...it was holding the screws.

However, this weekend my wife got her first pistol: Ruger LCR. I'm going to teach her how to shoot next weekend. Well, first lesson anyway.
Steve, I suggest a little training about how to teach your wife to shoot. Some great points for the husband coach are at http://www.corneredcat.com/Contents/. Plus a good site for her.

Congrats on the LCR...nice little pistol.
Hey, thanks Don! Not sure how I missed this post...we're going to try to shoot this weekend but due to family issues, not sure if we'll be able to make it.

Got ready to make the repairs on the parts car seat boxes. Have the passenger side stripped/sanded and ready for repair metal. Drivers side will be a PITA but I think I'm up to it.

Leaving in the morning to pick up the new car! :D dancebanana

Went to Jerry and Mary McClellans this morning to pick up the Sprint. What a great familyle. Mary fed us a fantastic lunch before we headed back home and I'm ashamed to admit I didn't get a picture of those two and their 2 sons but have plans to remedy that. :-/

The car is rough after being in the feild for so long. The solder at the posts is gone. Torque boxes look to be O.K. as well as the crossmember behind the seat. Rear frame rails will need replaced, trunk and floor pans and of course I'll replace the aprons up fron anyway. Got 2 very solid doors that Jerry had found. Along with tons of parts. Was able to turn motor at the fan so that's a very good sign. Won't really be able to do anything with the car until I get the rest of the parts car out of the garage. But watch me then! :p Here's the good the bad and the ugly.

THE GOOD:

Wow. Thanks for sharing. Glad you had a good visit.

Looks like a nice project Mark..All I can say is glad your doing it & not me :)

We all know what lurks beneath ! I will say this..You've got an opportunity to really have a very nice RARE car that will appreciate as time goes on..IF the repairs are done 110% percent..& you take no shortcuts..You would be wise to invest in practicing with a mig..& invest in a resistance welder..take a course at the tech college if you must..flux welding isn't going to cut it on this car..Best of luck with it..

Thanks Q. Jerry gave me a great deal on a Lincoln welder and your probably right. I need to start paying Bill (retired 69 year old welder) tuition. I'm thinking when I get it stripped to the bones I'm going to find that it's worth the work and money. As you said It's rare and so were the previous owners who hope I can pull it off. I'm thinking with the help from the forum, That's my path forward!

Good Luck Mark! Nice talking with you the other day. I didn't do any work to Dad's Boss today just lot's of drooling and amazement at the original parts that are there.

I worked like a squirell 2 weeks before hibernation. Finally got a look at how the 2 tone turned out on my cowel braces. Then worked on the spare seat boxes for a while. Bolted some parts on to check the look. And finally finished prepping the underside to recieve the rustoleum coating I'm going to start tomorrow. Oh, put a spare on the leaking tire on the 72 and put a bunch of parts away.

Drove the Boss today! Left an autograph on the street if you know what I mean! Trying to talk Dad into signing up and posting pics. Car is nice driver so bugs to work on but a hell of a start.

This weekend was all about seam sealer and RAAMat in the interior. Got the sealer done on Saturday, and almost half the interior's RAAMat done yesterday (from the seat platforms forward).

What I learned:

  • A single 35 sq.ft. pack of RAAMmat will only get'cha halfway there. (Still WAY cheaper than Dynamat, though)
  • RAAMat is actually quite easy to work with, but I never want to do this again
  • A cheap wall-paper seam roller works great until the plastic tabs on the roller give up
  • A Dasani water bottle lid is an outstanding substitute for broken plastic tabs on a cheap wall-paper seam roller
  • Getting the shifter out of the way is huge for maneuverability when plunking around inside an empty car
  • I think I need to start wearing knee pads or something - I feel like I've been chewed up and spit out by the car.
  • Being a 'volunteer' at the Auto Hobby Shop is a mixed bag (free stall time, but majorly cuts into actual time spent working on my own project)
  • Using my phone's camera sucks because when the bars are low (which seems like "always" with Sprint), just getting the pics out of the phone are a royal PITA

I'll post my pic when I finally get it out of my camera. I'm ordering another 35 sq.ft kit of RAAMat - based on my eyeball estimations though, I'm thinking that will only get the rest of the floor and 'maybe' half the roof. OK - I'm getting two... just in case (still want to do the doors as well). Still WAY cheaper than Dynamat, and so far - so good.

OK - here's the pic (after struggling with the phone to get the pic outta there). Sorry for the crappy resolution - 1.3Mp cell phone camera on my old Sanyo SCP-3810 flipper.

Gonna have fun getting all the features and holes re-exposed when it's all done - LOL!

Put the steering box back together and as I suspected with the missing balls there was also a snap ring missing on the input shaft, several rubber O-rings, and found 1 seal installed backwards. Oh well back together now just need to do the final adjustments.

Decided on new stainless carriage bolts for the firewall braces at the shock tower. Concouse guys would hate it if they saw how I made them fit. :dodgy:

Then moved on to replacing the pins and bushings in my door hinges. Just happen to know a good G-man (at work) that can press that last 3/16's splined in. :p
