I finished the coil spring job today. Gotta say, it looks badass this way. Just one little problem: It now has some major fender rubbing as the fenders have not been rolled. On the road it´s ok but don´t try and pull into a driveway!

I´ll try and cure that by using smaller tires up front. That´ll increase the drop by almost another inch so I can install the 1 inch lowering blocks in the rear without the rear being too high.

Woow... that is real close.... I dont think you are gonna be able to drive comfortable having to take care not to rubb the fenders...

A friend of mine cutted his original springs too much and we solve his rubb issue by building a little plate that move the nose of the car 1 cm up...

Just 1 cm or we can say 1/2" makes a big difference cause you are adding the plate directly to the right part of the car... i can assure it wont rubb and the looks are not going to change that much :)

Dont spoil your gorgeous paint job! :)

Yeah it is too close. I can´t even get my little finger in between there!

As I said, I´ll use smaller tires up front. That will clear the fenders and give the car even more rake. That´s been on the list for a while, I just wanted to drop the front end first before I buy new tires.

Oh, and the paint is pretty screwed up anyway after 7 years of daily use. But it still looks cool on the pictures.:D

I replaced my busted rear ujoint and busted trans mount lol.. I have lakewood muscle mounts but don't want to try them until I have time to mess with them.. I know the 73's mounts are different but couldnt find a clear answer on what mounts will work. I'll try the mounts when I have a chance and figure it out for myself unless anyone has gone through this already .

Greetings,

My 2 sons and I traced the one dead turnsignal to a loose wire in the socket - cool as I was not looking forward to fighting my way back up the harness looking for something askew. I have had the 3 converts for about a month now - on the one that we are saving we have everything detailed and back under the dash and it is ready for the guages and steering colum. That is this weekend mission.

For one moment in time every single light and signal are working.

The car is still a hollow shell but a hollow shell with lights!

I am enjoying this site!

Gee that looks sweet, but pity you can't drive it without chewing up the tyres. Looking at how low that is I wonder if rolling the fenders wouldn't make much difference to the rubbing anyway.

Finally got the old 4160 carb off for Dad to rebuild. the 71 is dead in the water at the moment! :(

I got my pitman arm in today - wasn't expecting it to even ship until the 12th. So - I should be able to get the wheels back on tomorrow. I can't wait! New pictures tomorrow evening.

First I took it for a drive. Then I pulled off my trunklid, sanded it, hit it with black primer inside & out, then hit it with a coat of rattle-can semi-flat. Then I found my new rubber pads for the wing, washed it (and the motorcycle, while I had the hose out) and put it all back together.

I enjoy seeing whet everybody else does to their cars, too!

Mike, aren't you running spacers on the front? Would moving the wheel and tire in a little bit take care of the rub?

I got the Rustang back in its wheels with the new front clip! Yay!!

Spindles showed up earlier this week, along with the pitman arm Friday night. I got tagged with a plumbing project and Brass Band gig yesterday, so today was all I could do for working on my pile.

Here's a couple pics:

Steering gearbox - I love this color. Perfect with the light pewter paint I'm planning. Too bad it'll never be seen again when the engine, headers, master cylinder, and everything else gets dumped back in there:

Here's how today started. All of the suspension and steering tossed in waiting on spindles:

All back together with ALL-NEW stuff. The old stuff was just too far gone to save:

And finally - we're off the jack stands! Got the wheels back on and dropped her back down without it folding up like a pocket knife. SCORE!

This image is a huge improvement over the shot-out suspension I rolled it in with. Camber is looking great for 'eyeballing' the cam bolts - compared to the permanent wheel gank it had before. At least she'll be align-able now:

I'm SO stoked... and relieved. Still got some minor stuff to do, but I think I'll be able to start on the floor pans next weekend.

Thanks again Scott for your advice and support!! I think it's all going to be OK now.
