Hello from Pittsford, NY (suburb of Rochester). Back in 1976 - 1977 I lived in Filderstadt-Plattenhart, just outside Stuttgart. I was a young US Army soldier at the time, and had little time for much touring, although I did get out to Ulm to see its cathedral, and drove to Bremerhaven to get a car shipped to the US upon the end of my enlistment. I enjoyed living in Germany, and decided if ever I had to leave the USA for any reason West Germany would be a fine place to reside. Unfortunately, when I was sent to Germany I did not qualify to ship my 1969 Mach 1 over with me,, It would have been fun on the Autobahn with its built 351 engine and very steep 3.0:1 rear axle ratio. There were plenty of faster cars on the Autobahn, but none as fun as that Mustang. The photo is me in late 1974 with my 69 Mach 1, and my brother, outside our parents; home in Woodland hills, California.

I miss that car, never should have sold it. But, I made up for it in spades when I retired. In the photos we have:

1969 Shelby GT500 (428CobraJet engine and C6 auto transmission, factory sir conditioning)
1973 Mustang Convertible (302 2v, automatic transmission, Classic Auto aftermarket air conditioning)
1973 Mustang Convertible (351W 4v built engine, 4 speed AOD automatic transmission, Classic Auto aftermarket air conditioning)
2020 Shelby GT500 (5.2 liter engine with 767 HP, 7 speed auto transmission, air conditioning, and High Tech package)

The 2020 Shelby would definitely do well on the Autobahn. It handles wonderfully, and has a very powerful engine. Yet, it is very comfortable to be in with its many creature comforts.

This is a walk-around video of the 73 Mach 1 on its last day of a very deep re$toration. Very expensive, but worth every dime we spent on it. Not long after that video we swapped its original automatic transmission out for a 4 speed Automatic Overdrive. The engine is from a 1994 F-150, a 351W (not C) with heads from a 1969 351 4v engine. It is built as a moderate street-strip engine with 360 HP on the dyno. With its 3.5:1 TractionLok rear axle it is quite peppy, plenty of power to have some fun, and with the overdrive and an engine capable of pushing against air resistance at high speed you can bet it could have done well on the Autobahn provided nobody got in the way. We have a lot of fun with it.

Welcome! I'm interested to see this project come together. Is the interior of your car still in decent shape? There aren't very many avocado interior pieces being reproduced. We are having to hope to find good quality used ones.

Hi guys
I have uploaded a few pictures of the restoration. Before / after, current state, mixed.
I don't know in which section in the forum this is right. Maybe an administrator can move it to the right place?
I think that such pictures are always welcome and can help some who also restore their car?

The car is looking great! I love the attention to detail and I agree that pictures are always welcome. I take a lot of pictures and post some of them to update my project build thread. I am looking at your inner fender pic and planning out how I want to refinish my inner fenders. All of this information being shared helps each of us learn from each other.

Hi Larry
Also a warm welcome from the Black Forest.
If you are looking for an Avocado interior, I do have a complete set of all the parts behind the front seats, like fold down rear seat, side panels, trap door, etc.
*Falls du eine Innenausstattung in Avocado brauchst, ich habe einen kompletten Satz aller Teile hinter den Vordersitzen.*
Cheers Frank

Hello, welcome from New Mexico. Looks like you are doing a great job, very impressive.
I was stationed in Kaiserslautern in 1978-1979 and really enjoyed my time there.

Big Howdee and Wilkommen from Texas!......again! Very nice work! I can see that its going to be better than new when your done. What engine are you going to install? Any special performance parts? Are you going to use an old OEM blower motor for your A/C unit or will you be installing new?
