Got to leave on a business trip today so I put on the hood this morning cause I couldn't wait to see it together again. This stang is now ready for paint!!!

Yeah Travis, if we were closer our projects would certainly go much faster :)

Update: The painter came by this morning and looked at the car. He pointed out flaws on the body that I didn't notice and is going to fix those. Overall he was satisfied with the work so I'll be taking it to him next Tuesday or Wednesday to start the process. He is going to block sand the body, fix any low spots, then primer and block sand again. After the paint he is also going to cut the polish the finish so it should look pretty good. Then install the striping kit and send it back to me. ETA is last week in November which works for me since I will be on vacation for 3 weeks in Nov.

Yeah, I was worrying about the strip kit too. Maybe your friend may want him to do it if he can't get it done locally. The painter that I got is in Hermiston, OR so not too far from where we live.

Spent the day getting all the parts together that need to be painted and doing final prep before it leaves for the painter. All the body panels are on now so it ready for the trip down to Oregon. I am planning on taking it on Tues or Wed of this coming week.

First off a big thanks to Mike (hyena429) and his friend Mark for helping me get my car loaded today for the trip to the paint shop.

So I delivered my car to it's new home for the next 4 weeks. I took it to Roadhouse Restoration in Hermiston OR where they are going to do some minor body work and paint the car. They will also be doing all the body panel alignments and putting on the decals. Will be going over to see the progress next week before I go on vacation so I should be able to post some progress shots.

Looking forward to seeing it come out of paint, and also for the updates along the way if you get the chance. You are way ahead of me, but I sure enjoy seeing the process.

Off topic: I love seeing the Amarillo truck pulling the 71-73. I also have an Amarillo and a 71-73. Kind of a rare combination so I thought that was interesting.

I believe that they only made 1 yr with the Amarillo badging so you don't see many of them. I got a lot of looks while I was towing the car to the painter last week. Tomorrow morning I am taking a drive down to the shop to take progress pics of the car. I'll post them when I get back.

Looking forward to them!

Went to the shop to take a look a the car and it's looking really nice. It has been shot with the filler primer and had its first block sanding done to it. It has sharp crisp body lines and they took most of the paint off of it before priming.

Next will be another round of priming and block sanding and then the panels come off for painting along with the rest of the car.

Unfortunately the painter didn't have the other progress pics ready for me but he will be sending them to me and I will post them. I will be gone till the last week of November so there won't be too many updates to this thread unless I get pics e-mailed to me and I get a chance to post them. Next time I see the car will be when I bring it home.

Looking forward to more and very jealous of your progress! I'm still working on hundreds of little improvements on mine, but I look forward to body work and painting stages someday. At least I can drive it a little until then.

You are also right about the one year only status of the Amarillo package. As far as I know it was 2006 only.

Looking forward to your progress on the Mustang.

I have been internally debating painting with fenders and hatches on or off. I have considerable time though.
Yeah I debated on that too, glad I decided to have them off. I found as I was doing the prep work that the fenders cover parts of the car that is subject to rusting and was originally painted. If the fenders weren't removed those areas would be missed and eventually rust through.

So you took them off for prep then installed them for final paint?

Yeah, see my post # 166. When I removed the fenders I found rust on the inside parts of the wheel well. It had only been primer'd by the factory so it wasn't protected very well. There are posts before and after #166 that show you the condition. I put everything back together so that I didn't have to carry a lot of parts to the painter. I knew that they would be removed again so I didn't bother to put in the shims and align all the panels to the body lines. They were close but not perfect.
