My Car
73 Mach 1 351
Well I hope to get into garage this weekend to work on car but first I have questions, My car was a stick but converted to auto c6 I want to change it back. I want to go 5 speed I need a parts list of what I may need to do this,

I know the normal parts but the bell what will fit?, tranny what year for 5 speed is best, clutch type what is better cable or hydro or z-bar, Flywheel size,

Car has 351 4 with c6 stuck to it, I will toss the C6 into bed of truck for plowing, good weight.

I did the swap on my '68 coupe. It was rather easy. Mine was a J code (302 with a C4 and an 8 inch rear). I took out the motor, trams, and the rear end. I then swapped in a 393w a TKO-600 and a 9 inch. As for the TKO, it was pretty easy. I got purchased the transmission with the bell housing ( a 90's style 5.0L will fit), I got an aluminum flywheel from Fidanza (5.0L flywheel is a 157 tooth with a 50oz balance). Mine is internally balanced. I also got a clutch, pressure plate, clutch fork, Clutch pedal and cable clutch kit. Obviously I went the cable route. No issues with fitment issues with headers and no hydraulic lines. I also got the mounting bracket and shifter with older style T- handle.

I actually purchased everything as a kit from Modern Driveline. You should look them up.

my car is originally a c6 car, almost 5 years ago i swapped in a tko600. my mild'ish 460 build loved the tranny since it had a low 1st gear and a .64OD gear but well well well, i build a strong 521 stroker and now it hated the 1st gear and the .64OD.

now i went back to the c6 with a transbrake. my 521 is so much more streetable with the 1st gear. and if i ever have a OD gear again, it needs to be no lower than a .80 cuz my stroker hates anything under 2000rpms but prefer to be above 2500rpms.

www.moderndriveline.com is your key ticket here! i sold my entire kit to another member here. i can help guide you along with the cable adjustment if needed.
